Nope the springs are the same! get the .177cal in the R9/95 gun! the cylinder volume is not efficient for a ,22cal I've had them their a good gun don't get me wrong I love the .22cal in that gun but the .177cal out performs it! I shot a pigeon at a 124yds lazered with my R9 the other day its the longest shot I've made with a .177cal gun to date and it dropped right out of the tree! the 20 is good as well but ammo is to expensive, the .177cal is the way to go in the 26mm tube, just my 2ct
I'm getting ready to purchase an R9 and was wondering what the caliber of choice is for R9 springer powerplant. I currently have a Discovery pcp in 22 and was wondering if it would be better to purchase the R9 in 22 so they could share pellets. I have also heard that the R9 is better in 177. My main goal is for accuracy paper punching and plinking (80%) and occasional small game/pests (20%) which is what I've been doing mainly w/my Disco. I find it very easy to pick off beer cans and water bottles at 65 yards using my Discovery at 65 yards with 15.9gr JSB exacts. It punches through and through at that range. Can I expect that kind of accuracy with the R9 in either caliber?I know that most guns have a sweet spot for pellet weights depending on the powerplant and velocities. So that leads me to ask...what is the R9 generally preferred in? 177 or 22?
When I bought my R9 and ultimately choosing which caliber to order I sought the advice of many on here. Weighing all the advise I decided on .177 after reading the comments and experiences of nced. I haven't regretted that decision.
