Title: Results 30 Yard Rested Air Rifle Match #5 Yr.7
Post by: gamo2hammerli on June 06, 2015, 01:42:11 AM
Awesome scores in both the Jumper and PCP classes this time around.  Norm_m got a perfect score in the PCP class.

In the Jumper/Springer class Nitrocrushr wins the GOLD, Mr Sasquatch brought home the SILVER and marty2 is on the podium with BRONZE.

In the PCP class Norm_m wins the GOLD with a perfect score plus 12 "X"s, Plan B and Kim followed close behind to earn the SILVER with identical scores.....so there will be no BRONZE medal giving out this time.

Congratulations to all the participants.

Tommy, you keep shootin' that FX .... and go after Norm.  I'm anticipating a 200/200 out of you.

Interesting .... I send my gun out to CA so Motorhead can give it a little check-up.  I sent it USPS 2-day Priority, on May 28th.  They said the estimated delivery date was Saturday May 30th.  I tracked it .... however the destination marker wasn't progressing.  So, I figure it was stalled somewhere, Sunday they don't deliver, so Monday at the latest, right?  Monday, I went out of town, returning Thursday, expecting the rifle to be delivered.  Upon my return, it is in CA (San Jose) which is 2 hours from the final destination ... and now the meter turned orange and is "delayed".   That makes 9 working days, and not delivered .... so much for 2 Day Priority.  I sent them an e-mail, but it takes about 3 days for a reply.  The only good thing so far .... it's not lost!  Hopefully Monday or Tuesday, and then I will pursue getting my 2 day priority money back.  Oh well, stuff happens.

That's nothing. I sent a package 2 day priority mail to WV. I am in Oldtown Md and WV is a hop skip and a jump for me. 4 days later they never got the package and it was stalled on the tracking site. The next day I check it again and it was in Florida!!! It gave me a delayed status and no estimated delivery date. It finally showed up but they need to stop hiring Walmart cart pushers at the post office.

Wow, never again using USPS.  Scott (Motorhead) received it today!  I had packed the action in a heavy duty tube.  Super taped everything secure.  Scott said the one tube end was missing, and the trigger sticking out through the side.  My guess is they were using it as a bat at some softball game?  Scott said the trigger looked fine, and so did the action itself.

Eleven work days to get there!  Get this ... I called them for a refund, because I paid for 2-day priority.  They said there is no guarantee with 2-day priority, only with 2-day or better Express.  Oh well, live and learn.

By the way .... the only reason Nitro took Gold in springer, is that the Squatch was shooting in 30mph winds, and me and Joe P didn't shoot.   ;D ;D  Just messin' with you Nitro, good shooting ... but watch out.

I hear yah.....you better get in some range time in preparation for the podium!  I see Squatch left a very large foot print on the 30-yard range this week.  Georgia locals reported seeing a large hairy creature carrying a TX200 with a big grin on his face ;D. We better get to work now if were gonna top that one ;)

Nitro, Don't worry about wind....I am in the process of building a climate controlled 30 yard indoor range here at the new house. Wind won't be a problem. Let Squatch and the gang deal with the wind. I am also in the process of installing 6 Sasquatch traps so we don't get any surprise guests on the property! 😂

LOL ... Squatch ..

Plan B .... no, I don't weigh'em, wash'em, measure'em, just pull them out of the tin and shoot'em.
I don't buy bargain pellets, mostly AA and H&N.  I have a lot of JSB Exacts etc which seem to have the least consistency out of the three.  I have had a tin of inconsistant H&N FTT's once.

Tommy, you are a regular party pooper. ;D

I started sorting my pellets by weight only this year. I also use a ~$25 electronic scale from Amazon. Why do you say it ain't good? Do you know something I don't?
Title: Re: Results 30 Yard Rested Air Rifle Match #5 Yr.7
Post by: PlanB on June 12, 2015, 07:47:00 AM
I'v prolly weighed 2-3000 pellets, maybe it's battery? But it doesn't appear to be bad. I can weigh about 50 pellets and go back and check um and many will be  4 to 8 hundredths off. I'm not sure that's enough to matter but I really don't enjoy weighing pellets( too much excitement's hard on my heart) and if I'm gona spend an hour doing it , I want them to be right.
I'll try another battery but if these little scales are accurate, why do people buy $300 to $3000 scales to do the same thang??
Here is about as wise as I git. I have never bought the best and later wished I'd bought a cheaper one.
Title: Re: Results 30 Yard Rested Air Rifle Match #5 Yr.7
Post by: Mr Sasquatch on June 12, 2015, 09:14:08 AM
I think that 0.04 gr off on the same pellet is the best you can get with these dinky scales. I usually am within +/- 0.02 gr on repeated tries with the same pellet.  Also if you happen to breath too hard in the direction of the scale your reading will go crazy.

Really you do not need to be any more accurate with weighing pellets. In my opinion you only need to separate outliers, those  that are really either too light or too heavy. I sort them into several "bins". For example, if the tin says that the pellet weight is 8.44 gr I mark old tin bottoms with weight these ranges: less than 8.3, 8.3 -8.4, 8.4-8.5, 8.5-8.6, 8.6-8.7 and 8.7+ Most on the pellets will be in the 8.4-8.6 gr range, but there usually will be maybe 20 pellets lighter than 8.3 gr, and 20-30  heavier than 8.7 gr. per a 500 count tin. Those I use for warm up shots.

When I shoot a target I select a single bin, let's say 8.5-8.6 gr, zero my scope with it, and have at it. When that bin is gone I'll use another one until it's time to sort another batch.

BTW, you are right that pellet sorting can be bad for your health. I now wear a football helmet to do it, in case I suddenly fall asleep fall off  the stool and hit my head on the bench. ;D

Lol
When weighing JSB 18.13's I do 18.06-down, 18.08-18.18, 18.20- 18.48 & 18.50 up.  When I go back and check, some are in the wrong bin.
Could be u got a goodun and I got a badun?
What ever the case, you are already shooting too dang good!!!!

Of course, this secret is merely one small attribute in the plethora of skills that make up the expertise of airgunning marksmanship, that is not shared by any of us non-hybrid human beings.  I feel his big hairy head inflating, as he reads this.  ;D

I took my 36 year old son-in-law Jim, to the KY fun shoot.  He said there sure were a lot of "old guys" there.   ;D ;D ;D

Guess this just might be a good old guy hobby?

At 64 I guess that makes me a member of the Old F.A.R.T. club. :o   I'm sure enjoying this hobby.
