Just received my Diana LP8 pistol and have been plinking with it for a couple of days. Fun pistol and want to put a scope on it.
I have an old BSA red dot (spelled BIG red dot) that I will trial on it but I am fairly certain it will not make the cut.
I am now on the search for a better red dot and also looking into other options. It is a pistol for backyard target shooting and chipmunks for a challenge.
Experience and advice would be appreciated.

Have been using red dots and scopes on all kinds of guns for almost thirty years, now.
Depends on how much you want to spend, but there are some very reasonably priced red dots that would work. One of my favorites in an affordable red dot is the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25. Good brightness and windage/elevation adjustments, decent screen clarity and an al around useful 3 MOA dot. You will need to find an 3/8th/11mm to weaver adapter to mount it on your LP8, but those are easy to find.
Tube style Ultradots can be mounted with conventional 11mm rings and are outstanding lifetime quality red dots very popular in pistol match competition. I prefer tube style dots for piste work because I find dot acquisition to be easier than with reflex style red dots.
In a reflex style red dot, one of my favorites that I am using on some springer rifles is the Burris Fastfire 3 in the weaver mount option. You'll need that same weaver adapter as per the Bushnell, but this is an excellent, very small and light reflex style red dot.
If you actually want to go scope with magnification, things get trickier, depending how close your shooting will be. At 10 meters, most standard pistol scopes will have parallax issues and some will not even focus clearly at 10 meters. There have been some pistol scopes made with AOs and some pistol scopes parallax set for close distance work, but those are few and far between. And no doubt about it, a pistol scope is harder to use than a red dot. It takes practice to get the hang of it.
I'm an old pistol silhouette shooter and, back in the day, a lot of us used rifle scopes on our pistols with unconventional holds. I currently have a few air pistols setup with 2-7x air rifle scopes with AOs. Not sure how this would work with an LP8 recoil, but something to consider.

Can't help you. I shoot my LP-* with the open sights. Pistol is heavy enough as it is.
Range is really only 20 yards+. I can see 20 yards without a scope of red dot. ;D

After a bit of further digging, I do not think I want any sort of magnification scope on my pistol. I do wish to find a good red dot for it. So I will look further into the Bushnell you recommended and others as well.
Any other ideas for red dots to consider would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you on the limited range of a pistol. I don't find my open sights fine enough to suit me and that could be associated with some vision issues.
This springer seems plenty strong and I have no buyer's remorse at all.
I am fairly certain I am going to invest in a decent quality red dot and give it a try.

Take a look at the Holosun. I have a HS403A that I really like. It has a 2moa dot. Very clear and works good for this 83 year old man.
