Title: reactive targets, new one
Post by: Limpy45 on December 21, 2020, 11:34:08 PM
I found something that is a new, well, to me anyway, reactive target for shooting air guns or even a 22 powder burner.   I found some 'petrified' marshmellows when cleaning out my Mom's apt a while back.  Both small and large ones.  I have tried both with air gun and WOW do they explode!!
I am going to build a target holder for outdoor rifle range that has a small shelf to set the marchmellows on to shoot at them.  I think my 12 year old grand son will enjoy that!  He is getting better at shooting with Grandpa's coaching.

Kinda like shooting sidewalk chalk I bet.

That’s fantastic, Dallas! We occasionally have the mini pastel ones that nobody finishes, I don’t eat them. They should work off of a golf tee, I’ll have to catch them before my wife throws them away next time.

Hate marshmallows???
No, no, no, don't say that.  You've never had s'mores evidently.  Or put one in the microwave, or toasted them with a propane torch. You gotta give them another try.

Floating on top of a hot cup of cocoa is yummy.

That reminds me of when I was a kid.  My father's favorite cousin had a house on a slow moving river.  We would take a bottle and throw it up stream, then race to his upstair study window and try and hit the bottle with an old .177 BSA as it slowly floated by.  I think I was 6 or 7.
Strange thing is, my father's cousin was a big ecologist and if you hit the bottle just right, it would break and sink, otherwise just clank.
O to be young again........ ;D

And if you shoot them from a high enough dam they will fly up into the air. You probably need at least 50 fpe for that though, a .22lr works well.

Did something similar, but dumber up here.   lol

Buddies and I would take 2L coke bottles and make a "dry ice" target.  The goal was to toss it up stream and hit it before they popped.  Looking back now it was extremely dumb to add the "ice".  Though we did quit doing that when a class mate had two of his fingers take leave of his hand.  Then we went with just plastic bottles.

Though now you can find rubber stoppers for a coke bottle and add some pressure to it for a bursting target.

Haha, here's a vote for eating those petrified marshmallows instead! Love 'em. The chewier, the better...But if I ever get enough at one time, I'll have to try shooting maybe one  ;)

The closest thing to a clay bird for airguns is..........Valentine heart shaped candies that have printing on them. I buy huge sacks of them the day AFTER Valentines day for dirt cheap. I hot glue them to black background. They shatter nice and leave a dust cloud.
Also free is chlorplact (plastic vote for me signs". I collect then the day after voting is done. They make great weather proof target backers.
