let me say 1st that this gun shooting the 50gr JSB at 100 FPE is a beast ;D ;D
and since it's sitting in this ugly Winchester stock it's perfect to take around the bush without worrying of ruining a nice stock ;D ;D
So, I riactivated my Feeder after months of inactivity,
today I was watching 5 nice medium/small hogs doing their thing and battling for the corn ;D ;D ;D when a noticed a serious sow approaching,
but she never came to the bucket, she stopped about 20-25 yards from it and just stud there watching, completely immobile,
after a bit a couldn't take it no more so I re-position myself, found a gap through the trees and sent a 50gr JSb to the temple

I really don’t know what Winchester was thinking. That is one of the ugliest stocks I’ve seen. If it was my only gun I would get in touch with Boyd’s and get a nice laminate for it. But you know what they say , imitation is the highest form of flattery. I put mine in a 10-22 folding stock just like Manny. It was kind of wobbly but I took care of that with some epoxy and cross pins. Now she’s rock solid.

Ya my friend you are sooo right, super ugly this Winchester stock ( perfect for dragging through bushes and banging rocks :) :) )
But I have this beautiful stock at home if I want to dress my .30 in some fine clothes :) :)

Right when I got into bed last night my trail cams sent pictures to my phone showing hogs just arrived to start tearing up my yard so I got dressed and grabbed my rifle plus my hunting headlamp then went out and spotted some at the beginning of my trail 50yds away so offhand I shot a black one around 100lbs but the others ran away into the woods before I could get another one.

You mentioned it held off from the others. I've noticed this with big game fish too when over 100 miles offshore. They get big from experience.
Very nice kill too on that sow.

Yeah she was definitely careful,
it felt good having to reset very carefully to actually get the shot,...felt more like hunting then just shooting of a pre-set position :) :)

I'm guessing in the 100s because you've been posting kills here for years. They'll find out the hard way like the others have that they royally messed up picking my place because I'm more determined to protect my property than they are to destroy it.

I'm guessing in the 100s because you've been posting kills here for years. They'll find out the hard way like the others have that they royally messed up picking my place because I'm more determined to protect my property than they are to destroy it.

2 reasons I moved from bowhunting to airgun hunting :
1st,
the ability of dropping them on the spot,....often tracking here turns into a nightmare and you could be walking feet from a downed pig several times and not spot them,....Elefant grass id brutal !!!
2nd
The ability to thread the precise shot past obstacles, ....often bowhunting I would get close but still to many trees to be able to thread an arrow in there.

I hear ya, bruddah. The jungle at the ranch is wicked; bamboo, trees and rocks on one side, vines, more trees and cliff on the other side. We've lost a couple of pigs that ran into the jungle; they were right under our feet but we couldn't see them with all the vegetation.
We could certainly smell them a couple days later. :o

I got a white spotted boar tonight. Short details mentioned HERE (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=159293.msg155889816#msg155889816) in the Backroom.
So far as finding dead hogs the use of a dog to sniff them out then bark until you arrive is the best and cheapest option day or night. A thermal cam is a good option too but expensive and same with a drone.

I found Manny over on the Black years ago The black is a New zealand airgun forum, here was this guy killing pigs way back then with a air rifle, I sent him a message asked him to check us out, He has been here ever since. David

Back then there was virtually no information in hog hunting with air rifles, and the little that was out there was exclusively with big bores.
When I started harvesting hogs with Small bore air rifles I got a lot of push back from the established crew at the "Yellow" and "Adventures in airguns"
I got called all kinds of names for a long time, but I knew that what I was doing was efficient and ethical so I kept on.
........Look where we are now, hog hunting with small bore is normal today and a farly common practice :)
And thanks David,...GTA is the golden standard.

Yeah Manny, I get the practice of using a big bore, but when did it dawn on you to take head shots with small bore air rifles.
I've been interested in hog hunting since I was a kid tagging along with my Pop. The use of air rifles never occurred to me. Somebody was cutting edge...You!!!

My 1st two Big bores where an Career Ultra .357 and a Sam Yang 909 .45
....my next Airgun was a Rainstorm I .22, as I was shooting it I couldn't believe how hard it was hitting with the EunJin 28gr pellets,
that made me d extensive testing for penetration on a huge variety of mediums, I quickly realized that with that power and how precise the gun was, Brain shots on pigs where very duable, matter of fact I got 2 pigs with the Rainstorm before I got any with the .357 and .45
It's been an adventure ever since :) :)

Turns out I killed 2 in 1 shot without knowing it. People still throw shade about killing hogs with smaller calibers despite proof such as what I listed in my other message that they work fine.

Well,.....you took the wrong shot !!!!
If you take the right shot a powerful small bore pellet gun is sufficient,....it's all about the perfect placement at the perfect angle
Overwhelming power will not let you always get away with sloppiness.

Bryan I've seen a guy(Tim Wells) kill a black bear with a blowgun on his tv show recently so it's possible. He's speared them too like hogs but I posted a pic of him here holding his blowgun staying perfectly still on the ground with a bear standing right next to him at the bait pile. It got within 5ft of him, looked at him for a few seconds then cautiously grabbed a donut and walked away. Tim has cojones that clang! If Tim can kill a bear with a blowgun I know Manny can kill a hog with one.

Check out Bob Berg at Thunderbird Atlatl. Bob did some hunting down here about three years back and he and his buddies bagged several porkers with spears.

I can't remember Manny do you spot and stalk, bait and shoot from a blind or stand? I had 9 show up last night in my yard but they spooked before I could get a shot off. Because of swirling wind I suspect they winded me. Didn't do hardly any yard damage for me to have to fix at least.

I do them all,
My favorite by far is Spot and stalk/Still hunting, but baiting is by far the most conducive to have more of a chance, which by the way it's by no means a given even if you sit on bait
Today I was actually scouting a new place to hang a feeder

If I had a feeder I'd have a programmable one with a remote switch to accustom them to hearing the feeder release the corn and being fed safely every day at dusk for a few days then sock it to em from my stand one evening. I've seen some hogs come back to feed right after gun shots and other times when hunters go out to collect their dead too but that is more common with bow hunting.

I place feeders in the mountains, private properties, Airgun Hunting isn't aloud in Pubblic land here.

Luckily I can hunt Public lands with my bow, so many good places I know, it would be nice if they opened them to airgunning
