Post by: DonC on March 31, 2018, 08:15:40 PM
Is a club I have belonged to for 20 years. We have a very nice AirGun range next to a picture perfect stream. The club offers trap, fishing on 2 separate lakes and affordable membership. Boat storage and pond access with 3 piers and lots of camping/picnic horseshoes, and annual club picnics, bomb fires/pizza,wild game dinner, 3 Turkey Shoots a year.
Come check it out. Google the website.

Members can shoot airguns anywhere on the club property.

Hi Don. I've been there last year as a guest of Joe (Joe Schmo on GTA), and it's a great place. Fun shooting area and the people I've met there have all been really nice.
Joe has been getting some really nice field targets and spinners too.

Oh he knows about the targets :P

By the way, Don: there's talks of moving the old mower and taking over the small wooden shed for exclusively airgun stuff.

Joe,
We will have to make some repairs and make it vandal proof.
Hope to see you there when weather gets better. I was there last Friday, a nice warm day.
I recently converted my Steyr 110 to Curley maple.

Oh yes, it's a ratty old mess right now.

I'm thinking of getting an HW98 in 0.177. I'm going to have to save up some for it.

Back to Illinois air guns, and for everyone else: we're going to have two or three fun shoots this year. Again, we'll have a vote on the dates. A reminder that it must be on a Saturday. Look for the voting thread within a month.

Joe,
You made a HUGE improvement to the AirGun Range when you removed all the brush and small trees along the creek bank. The view of the creek is really nice next to the range.
As an added plus, the club owns the property on the other side of the creek, so we never have to worry about those trees being removed. These trees make a nice privacy buffer from the subdivision.
Thanks for all your hard work on behalf of Illinois air gunners.

I've been curious and wanting to go and check this club out for years.  I friend of mine said he visited the place about four years ago.  Don't remember if he had camp there for the weekend but is overnight camping a possibility?  How do we get a say pass to check this place out?

The place is great.  Easy to get to with a major expressway next door.  Food very close by, and...a dive shop just 2 miles down the road to fill your tanks!

What more could you ask for?

I'm not a member, yet, but I plan on signing up when the weather breaks.

Yup! I've camped there before. If you're too close to the road you'll hear it while you're trying to fall asleep, but other than that it's pretty good!

The place is open to the public on Sundays starting at 10 a.m.. The folks will mostly be trap shooting, but the main members of the club who run the place will be happy to say hi and talk to you about it all. I'm almost always there, though I have a tendency to show up a bit later. *This* Sunday I won't be there, though.

Reports Of ‘Zombie’ Raccoons Scare Homeowners, Puzzle Police

CBS Local — Police in Youngstown, Ohio had  more than crime to deal with over the last month. The city has  reportedly been invaded by a wave of “zombie-like” raccoons who have  terrified local residents.
Police received 14 calls in March from homeowners saying that the woodland creatures were spotted standing upright on their back legs and showing off their fangs. One wildlife photographer called the shocking sight “extremely strange.”
“He would stand up on his hind legs, which I’ve never seen a raccoon do before, and he would show his teeth and then he would fall over backward and go into almost a comatose condition,” Robert Coggeshall told WKBN (http://wkbn.com/2018/04/02/reports-of-zombie-like-raccoons-puzzle-youngstown-police/). Making the incidents more disturbing, all the sightings were made during the day even though raccoons are nocturnal animals.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources believes the animals have been infected with distemper (http://wkbn.com/2018/04/03/local-vet-warns-pet-owners-about-distemper-spread-by-raccoons/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter). The disease is reportedly very contagious and can cause digestive problems, respiratory issues, and seizures. Local health officials say the virus can’t be transmitted to humans however, dogs can catch distemper from these zombie raccoons.
“It’s mostly spread through inhalation, but any contact with a  raccoon can be dangerous,” Dr. Margee O’Donnell-Foust of Bark Mobile Pet  Vet said. “Dogs in the backyard or in the park could certainly contract  the illness.”
Cook County in Illinois has also seen a group of zombie raccoons enter their communities. “What you are most impressed with is these animals walking extremely slowly, and not seeming to care about their surroundings,” Dr. Donna Alexander said, via CBS Chicago (http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/03/17/zombie-raccoons-could-spread-distemper-to-your-dogs/). “They are not showing any fear of humans. They are walking around during the daytime.”

Dr. Alexander adds that the best thing dog owners can do is to get their pets vaccinated against distemper. Police in Youngstown added that Ohioans should contact police immediately if they spot anymore of the “undead” critters walking around.
