Reposted for Lonnie with some stuff I added at the end. Great Day, Great Food, and Great company. I really want to thank everyone for coming out and making this happen. To the guys who couldn't make it this time: Thanks for the interest we will do another one in a couple months or so.
Lonnie:
A big thank you to Ryan K for arranging the use of the property up his way again! NCNFT was able to put on our second successful 48-shot match this weekend. We had 10-12 on the guest list but a few couldn't make it and a couple were concerned that it rained Saturday night so we ended up with 7 on the practice range and 6 shooting the match..... I don't want to rub it in but y'all that couldn't make it missed out on a good time.
Ryan planned a great course to! Utilizing the terrain and some specialty Rhino tree targets, there were uphill, downhill, shaded and lighted targets both in the flats and in the woodsy setting. Shot difficulty ranged from very easy to very difficult, with lots of moderately easy giving all skill levels a chance to be challenged and knockdown lots of targets.
The planning and forethought was the key to its success. I received a lane list accompanied with a course map on Thursday allowing me to pack the portable totes ahead of time according to course design. With the totes labled and ready to go, we stationed each accordingly upon arrival. The two of us were able to set up the practice area and the entire 48 shot course smoothly in about 90 minutes.
The weather cooperated beautifully! Morning temps were cool but the sky was clear and it warmed up quickly. A couple shooters showed up with unsighted rigs so we had a slightly extended warm up session. After the match we grilled some hot links, enjoyed some airgun discussion along with beverages, chips, salad, fruit, veggies, and cookies.
On the scoreboard:
I was really pleased with how the course was balanced. Everyone was challenged and everyone was able to knockdown a substantial number of targets, even on the fly. Mike C. a longtime hunter, shooting his R1, did a great job applying his field experience to his first field target match ever. We didn't break into divisions so to speak. But Hunter, Traditional and Freestyle were all represented and it ended up being a spring piston day to boot.
Jim P.......31 ---- ( .177 R10 )
Ryan K.......30 ---- ( .177 R9 )
Lonnie S..........37 ( .177 HW97 BL )
Mike C........34 ( .177 R1 )
Domingo T...... 29 ( .177 HW97 )
Pat R...........21 (.20 R9 )
Thanks to everyone that came out to enjoy the day with us and another thanks for helping tear down and pack the truck for the drive home.... Hope to do this again sometime soon!

Here is a few picks before my cell battery ran down to empty.
Follow the gravel path to FT paradise.
Rhino Rat on top of his moldy cheese.
Ryan in his favorite perch. <img src="/images/happy.gif" height="14" width="14" alt="happy.gif">
Pat and Domingo getting started on lane 1.
Ryan and Mike posed for a shot while Jim worked on the Doe deer and Bear targets.
If you look very closely there is a woodecker tree target strapped to that huge trunk and a Rhinocerous target on the ground at the edge of the manzanita grove.
Me:
Lonnie, thanks for making this happen. Without your targets and willingness to expand the FT possibilities this would just be a dream.
We had two unmarked but forced by bushes offhand lanes and one target Jim and I had to engage off my knee as I couldn't get a clean shot from our wftfish seated positions. Mike shot "freestyle" I guess but really he just shot how he does hunting. We used natural terrain a lot. Up/downhill, Light/Dark, Sun in your face on your back and every other way, and Shots where you had to break position from left to right target to have a clean shot were all represented well. Several times I thought I was set up but when I ran my AO in and out I saw a clump of grass or branches that I then had to reposition to get a clean shot. Just like in the Field.
Lonnie on dawn patrol setting up the sight-in range.
Jim P engaging metallic vermin.
Lonnie on target. Mike checking it out, I think he had fun and nice showing for his first FT event. A lifetime of hunting/shooting shows no matter what game you are playing I guess. He shot a .20 R1, not .177.
It was a spring gun day for sure. Don't worry Scott if you bring a puffer we wont hit you with it, that would be uncivilized. We will just point our fingers at you, sneer at you down our noses, and call you dirty names.
Not just all spring guns either all of them are "Field" guns. No massive stocks, adjustable anything, biggest scope was 24x, and no hamsters, gerbils, or delicious Cuy strapped on. It looked like we we going hunting, hmmmmm......... kind of felt like it too.

Scott has his TX setup ready to go.
Seeing as how he has already mastered the PCP HFT shooting.

Thanks John,
We had lots of fun.
How many shots do you guys do?
The reason explained to me for 48 was 12 lanes 2 targets 2 shots per target. The reason we set our course up this way is because everywhere else we shoot does it that way. Sort of weak logic and not very original I know but it is what happened.
My suggestion was actually to shoot as many targets as we have (27 I think). Reason being we are out shooting anyway lets make the most of it. The argument against this was more set up take down time. I relented on the grounds I just wanted to shoot!

Great job organizing and carrying out that FT match. It looks like everybody who attended posted some impressive scores, and the best thing was everybody was a SPRINGER shooter!
That's right up my ally as a springer fan and I definitely want to make one of the future matches. Thank you Ryan and Lonnie for all of the hard word preparing for the match with all of the target work and set up. I think the new FT club is off to a great start!
