Hey everyone,
I was wondering what are some springers that are commonly used in FT shooting with a pretty good track record?
I was looking through some of the recent results, one guy that had a collectors air rifle worth over 4k and everyone else was using Beemans R9s, id be interested to hear anyones experiences .
Cheers,
Victor

TX 200s and Hw97k are two of the most common guns. The collectors gun you referenced was likely a whiscombe. Very nice but hard to find and more expensive than most PCPs for FT. The R9 does get some use by a few folks but the under levers are most popular.

When I first started in FT, I looked at all of the various forums and searched to see what rifles were most prevalent. TX 200 is #1 in the winners circle. #2 is HW 97 and HW 77. In springer, after that I seem to remember a fair number of R9's, R11's ( a FT Stocked and built for FT R9..) and then Diana 54's. Others are Diana 48, 34's have had some good accounts of themselves. Mostly though, lots of HW and TX products because of the FT bias towards an excellent trigger.
Not that Diana's are bad, I really, emotionally, want to run a Diana in competition, because it was my first FT rifle, but the t-05, even tuned, is not as good as the stock Rekord triggers I have used.
It's interesting, as the people who compete semi or very seriously in spring classes in FT all tend to use model rifles that are above or around $500 as a base price. Then they go out and have them tuned.
The most important thing it seems is to have the right Glass, and to not get magum-its. The upper limit for FT FPE is 20 FPE. Very, very few springers shoot in a well mannered way at that high an FPE. The glass has to be strong enough to hold your zero and be very repeatable when you make adjustments, if you "click" onto the target. If you are a holdover guy, then having good glass is very important. I have done both, Holdover is simpler and more intuitive. Clicking to me, is more accurate, and more prone to mistakes.
I have tried unsuccessfully, many times to shoot at higher FPE trying to get a "flatter trajectory" out of my springer. but what really seems to work well is a moderate FPE range, 12-14 FPE, about 25% below the limit.. The motion while shooting a springer is greatly reduced and you ability to hold on the target, your follow through, is much better.
