Guyshave you watched Peppy kill a ground hornets nest?I was sitting in a tree blind 20'+ AGL, waiting for the big buck to come by the trail below me,I noticed Peppy waddling along head right towards me, I got ready, as I planned on sticking a SHARP pointed stick thru him.About 30 + yds from me, Peppy turns to the side of the trail and starts digging in the ground, after a short time, Peppy flips around and spreads it's tail right over the area it had been digging in, then starts biting at it's tail, then starts digging at the same area again and repeats spreading it's tail over the same area, then starts biting at it's tail etc, this action went on for over an hour, then Peppy waddles back the way it comes from.I had been watching thru the field glasses and I thought it was yellow jackets that Peppy was eating etc, after waiting for over a couple of hrs, I climbed down and went over to where Peppy was digging, sure enough Peppy had dug up a ground hornets nest and killed the flyers and then eat the nest comb etc.One tough little critter, I do believe............... This is not the first time I have seen type of action from skunks,so they skunks do provide some help getting rid of those Yellow Stingers.Tia,Don
I wonder why Peppy didn't just spray the hole full of his secret sauce. All the hornets would have left and he could have had his fill of the comb without having to kill the guard hornets.
I once put an electric fan in front of their entrance in a crack in the foundation. Went inside and plugged it in. They all came out and attacked the fan. Within an hour the ground was littered with dead or crippled YJ.

Skunks don't spray unless they deem it absolutely necessary as it takes a long time to refill their sac.

Never knew skunks at their nests. I use my gallon jug sprayer with diesel. Light something then toss it in the hole and spray the diesel from a good distance to really kick up the flames. I didn't get stung. Some showed up later that were out foraging during the fire. I finished them off with wasp spray.
