I'm so sorry, guys. The project has been stalled. But I have not forgotten it, "dang" I really wanted this to get done. So much for my promise in January.
As to the Maple - The plank had already been kiln dried, I bought it from a local hardwood distributor - and I was still/just dealing with the stresses that had been dried in to the wood.
(The last thing I wanted to do was make the stock, and then have it "potato-chip" on the barrel/action)
I think I'm going to get off my bu++ and take another look at it. If it hasnt moved, it should be flat enough to work. I can take the "centerline" from the best edge. Looks like it might be hand tools now
I don't want to give up yet.
Anyone have access to a big milling machine? That would save me an incredible amount of time. (Problem is that I'd need help from the operator, i wouldnt want to break it) Dont worry, I doubt there is one available, that was more a Socratic rant into the void.
OK, time to practice a little perseverance!
