Title: Slavia 631 Lux: sweet shooting springer
Post by: north country gal on March 14, 2021, 11:52:48 AM
My husband surprised my by buying a vintage Slavia 631 Lux, last month, sight unseen, via an online auction. To our delight, it's in great shape and shoots very well, indeed. Great buy for only $60.

I first tried mounting a scope, but the 13mm rail proved to be a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, I played with a standard 11mm ring set and added a scope, just to see how the Lux would shoot. Then I discovered the gun has some barrel droop, so ran out of elevation with two different scopes. Back to the drawing board, then, as far as getting the proper mount.

In the meantime, I added a Burris Fastfire III reflex sight via an old 3/8" to weaver adapter I had in the parts drawer. This adapter was the version with clamps on both sides of the mount that allowed me to center it, perfectly, in the Lux's rail. For whatever reason, no issue at all with running out of elevation with the Fastfire, unlike with the scopes. For sure, the Fastfire II cost us more than 3 times what we paid for the rifle, but it works so well I don't have the heart to take it off. :)

Tried a variety of pellets, most of which fit loose in the Slavia barrel with mixed results as to accuracy. The 7 grain R10s fit a bit tighter than the rest and delivered very good accuracy, though.

The combination of the red dot and the R10s are a really good fit for this mild shooting rifle given that it will be an up close indoor and backyard plinker. I had never even seen one of these Slavia 631 rifles before my husband walked in the door with this one. What a sweet easy to shoot little rifle! Best $60 air rifle we've ever bought. :)

I sold mine years ago and have regretted it ever since.

Several years ago I found my 631 at a Santa FE gun shop along with a RWS 320. Wife had a gig of some kind there. Paid $300 for both. I have an old Tech Force 2-7X32AO scope on a one piece mount. Don't know the brand of the mount. The clamp on one side sticks out a little and the mount leans a little. You have to look close to see it. But the scope is square with the gun. Maybe a hair of center. But it's zeroed and a tac driver. Poor man's 124.

$60 is a great deal, for any air gun!

I'm pretty fond of my 630 and 631; especially like the classic/vintage appearance of the 630.

My guns have the year of manufacture stamped on the breech block. They both prefer RWS SuperDome pellets.

B-Square used to make a one piece adjustable scope mount especially for these rifles.

Vertically split two piece rings such as Bushnell BSN76-3022 work great; Quik-Site also sells a couple types of vertically split rings; one identical to the Bushnells, and one a bit taller.

$60 for a 631 is a bargain !

The ergonomics + weight of the 631 is perfect for off hand shooting. Put it in the hand of a great shooter and you'll get these results - well done.

These days, any modern 630's and 631's are being made in Slovakia. While the original onces were being made by CZ in Czech Republic, but CZ made them obsolete unfortunately. Just like they did with the 634 too. If you really can find an old 63x series, it is even made in Czechoslovakia.

I have a weakness for CZ airguns and prefer them even over my German ones (ssshhhtttt, don't tell anyone in the German gate). Still, my most preferred CZ is a pcp. The CZ200. Which have been made obsolete as well.

AS I said got a 631 and also two 634's great guns love'em.

Question: Back in the day did CZ make a CZ200 that use 12gm co2 carts?

Don't know if there was a CO2 version of the Slavia, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Speaking of the CZ 200, just bought the AA (CZ) 200T and I've fallen in love with it. Wonderful little PCP.

Not according to my information. At least in rifle form.

Originally the CZ200 has been build from a air pistol platform. It might be that the air pistol has been using co2 carts indeed, but that I don't know.

CZ made the BRNO Tau 200 CO2 match rifle that could run on either cartridges or bulk fill; it is completely different from the S200 PCP.

My incredibly accurate Tau 200 Jr. with synthetic stock weighs 7 pounds with a 4-16x40 scope mounted. A convenient striker spring adjuster allows it to run down to the high 300's FPS, and up into the 600's.

Right, Tau. Not a PCP kinda' guy but I do enjoy some CO2. 2078, 2078B and a Japanese and Philippine CO2's. TAU 200 would be nice if you could find one. Have to research.
