Title: I think it was a Coyote hunt.
Post by: Bicycleman on April 15, 2020, 02:49:24 PM
This morning, the temperature was down around 29ºF with frost covering everything.  There was even freezing fog in Nashville.  (Dangerous on overpasses!)
I had planned one last Coyote hunt before it gets warm enough for the ticks to start moving around.  Well, this morning was the morning.
The first spot I tried was "Deer Stand Valley".  I sat and called for about an hour and saw some deer (2).
I decided it was time to make a move.  The next spot borders a pasture.  I saw a Coyote in this area on February 29.  I sat on a rock with a good view of the pasture and called for about 30 minutes.  This spot seemed like a good idea at the time.  I shoot only pictures though.
The first two pictures are in "Deer Stand Valley".  [Guess why.]  These pictures were taken near the end of the squirrel season.  I sat in the tree stand this morning.
The last three are at the second place  --  The camera is pointing toward the North at the East end of the woods.  I am in a rocky creek bed with Cedar trees at my back.  This a good squirrel spot that I hunt often.
It was a very comfortable morning and an enjoyable outing.

Hi, Randall.
I was all warm and comfy; that is, until the little breeze came up.  Then I made the move to the second spot; and it was okay after that.
Thanks for looking in and the compliment.  The pictures were taken with the little Cannon [el cheapo] I got to replace it big brother that craaaped out after the end of the squirrel season.  It is very tiny and easy to carry in a pants pocket.

Hi Mike !

Good luck next time on the coyotes.

I liked your pictures !

Your fall pictures, look like my place right now  ....except I have a little snow.  The snow was all gone then it snowed Easter Sunday.

Best Wishes - Tom

beautiful area.  i wish i had woods with no undergrowth to contend with.  ive had to pass on squirrels for fear of losing them after they drop.

Thanks for the good words, Tom.  I was thinking about you today and told my wife how you have snow when the rest of us Southerners are mowing our lawn wearing straw hats and sunscreen.
The rancher has mostly decided that he doesn't have a Coyote problem.  But I still like to get out and breath the sweet air.

Carl, I know what you are talking about - part of my Louisiana woods I hunted was very thick with many Briers.  Nasty stuff that I learned to avoid.
What you need to do is look for woods where cattle have access.  The cattle do a great job keeping the underbrush in check; but also, they walk regular trails/paths that a person can use for stalking.
Thanks for your reply and stay well.

Hi, Dave.  Thanks for your compliment.
I really like these little cameras.  They are very simple (Point "n" Shoot) and tiny for carrying along in a pocket.  This one gets to live in a Ziploc Sandwich bag to keep it clean.  I think the one before it was killed by the dust and dirt in my pocket and the outdoors.
Take care of yourself and shoot straight.

For sure it was a nice time in the woods.  If there are hogs in your area, maybe you could try calling them?

Glad to see you had a nice outing Mike and got to spend some time with nature.  My wife and I plan on doing that soon.  We 've been cooped up too long.  Were you planning on shooting a coyote or just take pictures?

Harry

Good morning, Marcos.
I have hunted these woods and fields for several years.  During that time, I have not seen any pigs; and there is no evidence that they are around either.  But I can wish!  :D

Hello Harry.  I will be watching for those pictures when you get a chance to do some shooting.  Good luck.
Thanks for looking in.

Harry - I was re-reading your post and saw that you asked a question I had not answered.  --->  Were you planning on shooting a coyote or just take pictures?

I definitely planned to shoot a Coyote if some/one showed up.  I was hoping one would come in alone and stop about 30 yards out; and stand there long enough for me to place a JSB in its brain.  Maybe next time.
