cant beat those xs12... great little plinkers. But a while back i found that 3100 in need of help and im a sucker for orphaned guns... opened mine up, cleaned up internals and cleaned up the seal. Result? 604 fps with those chinese beeman wadcutters (7.8 gr) and it will literally stack them at 20 yards. trigger benefited from a polish wheel and a softer spring. with a 9x mild dot scope i knock down cans at 75 yards all day long... best kept secret in my opinion... but you gotta find them used. the xs12 is available now at a very reasonable price.

Just out of curiosity, how light and how heavy a pellet can you use in these guns? My XS 25 shot 10.65 gr Baracudas best, but the spring did not hold up. Anything under 8 gr was not kind to the spring either. I would imagine that lighter pellets would work just fine, but pellets heavier than 8.5 gr (we are talking .177 here) would either stress the spring or "wheeze" their way to the target at a much lower velocity.

at risk of starting a endless debate i will say this. heavier pellets do not put more strain on a spring to any measurable degree. we are talking about 100ths of a gram in difference to a spring that has the power to push the back block on a springer thru a wall. if anything i would say a heavier pellet will me milder on the seal as it requires more pressure to be pushed down the barrel creating a stronger air cushion before impact against the breach wall... I have had R7 shooting 7.3 gr pellets that failed at the 4th tin (2000 shots). I also have owned a rws 34 that probably was used during ancient Egypt to shoot frogs during one of the plagues... its that old. and it shot kodiaks with my dad, and now shoots JSB 10.3s without any showing of deterioration (i cant say how many pellets my old man put through it, but since i rediscovered it 12 years ago, i probably have put another 8000 shots. I chrony it every 6 months or so... 740 fps avg for the past decade or so... I have also a milder R7 that likes 8.2 gr meisterkulgens and has been shooting them at 600 fps since i had it tuned 6 years ago. i tried a tin of 9.3 supermags and went back to the 8.2s... 602 fps avg.
We need to stop thinking about the weight of the pellet as a damaging factor. you should shoot the pellet that your barrel likes best (most accurate). After all, springs ARE perishable, they are all going to need replacement eventually, so find the pellet that works best.
By the way, i did found some numbers on the XS12 with crosman heavies.... (drum roll please)...
493 fps avg. accuracy at 10 yards not that good.

I would only add that too light of a pellet is more apt to cause damage to the spring. The spring needs some level of back pressure to keep it from slamming into the end of the air chamber at the end of the shot cycle. Heavy tar on the spring will eliminate some of the shock in the spring.

The only difference between a 177 cal xs12 and a 22 cal xs12 is the barrel. A 177 D34 and a 22 cal D34 are also the same rifle except for the barrel, ( at least as far as I can tell).
I suppose that there might be an argument that there is greater volume to the 22 bore, but I can not see how pellet weight makes a difference.

Thanks for the replies about pellet weight. I had tought about the barrels being the only difference in the XS12 and 34. I only speak from my experience with the XS25. The spring broke within 500 rounds using both heavy and lighter pellets. I went through 2 springs in 60 days of my initial purchase. Now it could be argued that the replacement springs (oem) were defective. I do not know. My latest spring is from ARH and it has lasted thousands of rounds thus far, however, I have not used anything lighter than 8gr or heavier than 8.4grs since swapping it out. Twice bitten thrice shy, as they might say about us slow learners.

How Ironic...
My Grand Daughter, "Dead Eye Lou" just came down and said "G-pa, here... I want you to see this". It was her Mid-Term Progress report.
She's now in 6th grade, new middle school, new friends (a boy!), plenty of distractions.
I made a pact, showed her the FD XS12 and said "If you keep this up for the next 6 weeks and your report card looks like this or better... I will get you one of these"
Her eyes light up and she literately ran upstairs.

Another sign of changing time. Back in my school days I was merely threatened with bodily harm.

She already gets that from me.... I think that is why there is no "C" or below.
That would lead to a hide tannin from G-pa... and she knows it.
Her mom got the same, as did I from GG

I got an XS12 from Dairyboy. Full Flying Dragon MM TUNE. It's got to be the funnest little light weight thing to shoot.
IT'S taken 3 pigeons now. 1 @ 10 yard 2@20
Love the Little thing. Mine is so near not hold sensitive. Well let's just call it not. And it shoots all my pellets so close to same point of impact it makes me smile every time.
The only problem I had with it. And I have had it on one other MM TUNED rifle and I keep forgetting to tell Mike is the trigger guard screw is to Long and it hits. I think the Piston and after shooting awhile the screw wedges the Piston at full cock and sticks the trigger full forward. Once the screw is backed out the Piston slips forward trigger goes back to normal.
So I take and shorten the screw just till there's no rubbing.

Since it is designated for youth / entry level gun. Does the XS12 have any type of anti-beartrap device?
Looking at the exploded diagram, I am not seeing anything shown.

Scott, it has an auto trigger safety. Does that function as an anti bear trap device?

Hello, Scott.
Just seen this in the new Products Section on PA Website.
It is a spring piston Sidelever powered nifty little gun, not classic wood and steel, but Tactical Synthetic Stock and variable in Pullenght adjustable, so far it is rated in the 500 fps range, with a 5 shot selfindexing magazine.
It is brand new and will be available per PA website on O3/14/2019.
Here is the link:

Hope this helps.

Jürgen, while that gun does have some nice features, she has her heart set on a wood -n-steel one this time around.
