Clear Front Sight Insert

I bought a Clear Front Sight Insert for my 753s off ebay. I bought the old style Walther slimline style that is 15.9mm/.626" in diameter. It doesn't fit in the little slot that the other inserts drop into on the front sight, it's too thick for that, but if you unscrew the end of the sight completely, and drop the clear insert down from the end, give it a tap or two to let it center itself, and then screw the end back on, it works nicely.
My original insert aperture (and the only one that came with the rifle) was what I measure at 4.2mm, and it seemed too big to me. My clear insert has a 3.8mm aperture, and I like that much better. And being clear, it really is a lot easier to center up on the specific bull I am shooting at, rather than counting over and down to get to it. No horizontal bar outside the aperture, just that ring floating in the front sight within which I center the bull.
Next, I gotta do something with that trigger.

You can order globe sight inserts direct from Daisy. Ring inserts (4) for the globe sight are p/n 168968-000 $3.00, post inserts (4) are p/n 169759-000, also $3.00.

I remember you providing that info in my thread on the Daisy board Mark. I appreciate that. I came close to getting a set of the aperture inserts from them, but I wanted to try the clear insert. I like it so far, and the 3.8mm size seems to be a good size for me.
Time will tell if it works out in the long term.

Rick,
I have a clear front sight insert in my FWB 601 along with an Eagle Eye .5 diopter lens. The clear insert has a step on the O.D. As it is now installed the front insert retainer sets on the insert's step and pushes the insert back against the rear threaded retainer.
This is the first clear insert that I have used, and I really like it. At some point, I'll try it in my 300S.

Clear or bar insert, depends on the shooter.
Each has advantages and disadvantages.
With the bar insert, you have a horizontal bar to visual check if your rifle is upright or canted, and the amount of cant. With the clear insert, you have no visual reference for cant.
The horizontal bar can/will cover other targets if you are shooting a multi-bull target. This can lead to you shooting on the wrong target/bull. I've done it
With the clear insert you can see which target/bull you are aiming at.
- In regulation 10m precision matches, you are shooting at only ONE target, so there is no confusion.
- For sportster, it can get a little confusing as you do have multiple bulls on the target sheet.
- The real confusing target, is when you shoot at something like a 20-bull target in a 4x5 configuration. This is not a regulation target, but is something that can be printed at home on a letter size paper. The more bulls on the sheet, the more confusing it will be.
Clear inserts allow more light to enter the sight and your eye.
AS for aperture size, these are the guidelines that I got and use.
- Size the aperture so that the bull stays INSIDE the aperture most of the time. IOW if you wobble a lot, use a larger aperture than if you don't wobble a lot.
- - And on days that you do wobble more, use a larger aperture. Don't think you have to stick to ONE size.
- Do NOT use an aperture that is so small as to leave a tiny strip of light around the bull. That leads to other issues.
- Testing by various junior groups have shown that using a LARGER aperture generally results in better accuracy. Though it takes a bit of time for the shooter to get used to the new larger aperture.
- If you shoot at different size targets/bulls, or at different distances, you have to change the size of the aperture, to match the apparent size of the target.
Bottom line, is you need to have an assortment of different size inserts, to match to the rifle, target, distance and you.
