I've mostly used the basic mouse traps. I've baited them with many things, but find processed sandwich cheese, a piece of apple or PeanutButter work best most often, or sometimes a mix of two of these. One thing I've noticed is the trap springs in newer traps seem weaker than they used to be, but one benefit is no gruesome clean up after a catch. There are a few kinds of traps available, my wife prefers a no see/no contact disc trap that resembles an oversized hockey puck.
If all else fails, "choot 'em" Lol. A Daisy Buck/Red Ryder will have enough gusto to do the deed up close, no need to use a high power .25cal...

I have had good luck with Victory mouse traps. The trigger can be adjusted to a hair trigger. I put peanut butter on the top AND ON THE BOTTOM of the trigger. Mice and rats can clean off the top without triggering the trap, but when they try to get that last bit from the bottom SNAP!
Many years ago I moved into a neighborhood that had MANY large black rats (roof rats?)
One of them attacked our pat cocktail.
The war was on. I bought every rat eradication product available to me in 1992.
