Slavia 618 air gun, recently aquired

Recently bought a Slavia 618 "bb" gun at an estate sale. I wasn't able to "break" the barrel (a bit of rust and lack of lube...plus maybe I'm a bit weak!), so disassembled it instead. Found a piece of twisted wire inside the piston chamber, that someone in past must have stuck down in there for some reason. The wire had done some damage to the seal (leather, I believe...it's soft and held to piston with a washer) but looked like it (the seal) might still be functional, so lubed and reassembled the gun. And it worked!!! But...horribly inaccurate using BB's...way off the target (15 feet) and unpredictable. Then I tried a pellet...worked great...powerful and within an inch or so of where I was aiming. Which brings up the question...why the difference? The BB's will fall thru the barrel, the pellets don't. Is that because of wear in the barrel, or was the barrel bore diameter of these old guns from Czechoslovakia not quite compatible with current BB's? The serial number (?) on the gun is 47331. The brand name Slavia is written cross ways, at an angle. Thank you!

Sounds like it is a pellet rifle and not a BB gun. Is the barrel rifled? Usually there is a magnet or other retaining method for BBs.

Like the other guys said, do not shoot any more steel BB's through it, it is designed to shoot only pellets. Also, do not dry fire it without being loaded, it will cause cause damage.
Lead balls may be fired through it, but don't bother with them. They are hard to come by, usually expensive, and won't perform well.

Even on guns that are designed to shoot both BB and Pellets, the Pellet is more accurate by design. It's wasp shaped body (diabolo) gives it stability, and the hollow rear (skirt) expands out when the burst of air hits it to seal against the barrel.
Here is a good read on it VS the the old lead ball.

A friend of mine just sold one last summer. The 618 seemed a sweet little pinker. That model was sold in Europe, UK, etc but rare in U.S.

Hi onet12,
I can't put external links because I don't have the 20 post required, but if you open your own link to vzduchovka DOT cz, scroll down and click on "Previous" at the bottom left, you will see an old version of the Slavia 618 that have a smooth bore.

Lately someone mentioned having no windage adjustment. I thought it was this thread. On the 618 in the link Scott showed us you do windage adjustment by taping the front sight right or left. After you do it a drop of lock tight might help. Remember the front sight is moved in the opposite direction you want to move the poa or strike of the round.
Another thing I thought of was if I wanted to rebuild a little gun like that, Pyramyd has a Tech Force spring gun parts/cleaning kit for $9.95 part# PY-A-3453. The leather piston seal is 25mm. Soak it in oil for a few days and it swell and fit tighter. Kit comes with 4-6 leather breach seals that can be made to fit that gun. The main spring can be cut down and maybe fit.

The piston on a 618 is only 22mm in diameter; JG Airguns has a replacement
http://www.jgairguns.biz/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=78_185_690&products_id=9179
If you need a new mainspring you can get one here
https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24921/618/
I did tear down my 618, but the spring was good and I did not measure it; I usually measure them either way.

The Slavia 618 and 624 share the same internal. The 624 only have a longer barrel and a longer stock. So the leather piston seal from JG Airgun can also be used for the Slavia 624.
As for the mainspring, a spring for the HW45 pistol can be used, but you may need to remove some coils. The last time I looked, Jim Maccari had a spring for the HW45 and there's also the Titan XS No 15 that should fit.
There's also someone in Australia who makes synthetic replacement seals for them:
