880 barrel?

How strait should a barrel be? The barrel in question has a very slight curve to it. Can't see it without putting it on a dead flat surface. Not sure if it should be perfectly strait or if they are even made that strait. Should I bend it or leave it? A new shroud will be going on the rifle.

Thanks Ronno. This is the 880 with the bent shroud. Checking on a new one for it so I can finish rebuilding it using the kit I got from you. This rifle has no sentimental value so aftermarket stuff doesn't bother me. My other 880 that I got straight from the factory is a different story, still a great shooter.

A lot of times you can roll a small tube, like the 880 barrel, flat. You need a flat smooth surface and your hands. First, locate the high side of the curved barrel. We’ll call that the 12 o’clock. The two ends will be 6 o’clock and in contact with your flat surface. Place the heel of your strong hand on the 12 o’clock and roll the the barrel to the 3 o’clock and then back to the 9 o’clock and then back to 3 o’clock. Slowly increase speed of this back and forth movement. Frictional heat will increase and begin relaxing the metal. Moving your hand back and forth toward the ends will spread the heat. I’ve made the process quicker a few times by sticking a strip of masking tape under one end.

An arrow straightener like the one linked below with a dial indicator can be used to straighten light barrels. There are better ones (albeit more expensive) that have arms for bending the arrow/barrel. They work pretty well for light barrels and barrel liners. A bent barrel is of course not ideal and the best option would be to replace it with a straight one but in a pinch (lower cost/obsolete parts) this will work unless the bend is excessive.

The arrow straightener is more than I want to spend. The barrel isn't that bad. Thanks for the tips they gave me some ideas.
