That is identical to my Sakai ML210 which I used to make several airgun parts.

No lantern tool post for it yet? Cutting force of a form bit directed straight down through the carriage here. Rigid. No cross slide twisting, lifting, and flexing. No clearance issues with the tailstock center. Perfect for this job.

No lantern for this one. It didn’t even come with one originally. There is a reason qctp are so popular.
I completely understand your explanation and have been aware for years. Is it BEST to have the tool centered over carriage? Sure it is. Is it a necessity? Not at all.
I make sure it hangs inside the edges. How far inside depends on the operation.
I’ve used both qctp’s and lanterns in my years. I prefer a qctp. I will note that my qctp on my mini lathe got redrilled to bring the tool closer to center.

I sometimes throw the lantern tool post thing in for some fun. One reason QCTP is so popular is because everybody tells each other lanterns aren't any good. But there are many times when lanterns are better if you want to take advantage. Especially with light lathes making small parts when the Blocky one just gets in the way. Like here in the foe toe making a trigger screw. My QCTP spends it's share of time in a drawer. Depends on what set up I need. Won't ever be without a lantern.

Man, I’m not sure. Just keep an eye out. There are other brands about this size as well. Every once in a while one comes up. eBay is not the place to look though. Check local and Craigslist. Garage and estate sales too.
