I had one more of my pecan trees die this year that Hurricane Katrina damaged in '05. Funny I knew last year that it struggled to put leave on but finally leafed out fully but this spring not the first leaf. I had no idea that it was that rotten, it has already dropped two limbs in the past week. One a 6" and yesterday a 12" limb.

Funny I knew last year that it struggled to put leave on but finally leafed out fully but this spring not the first leaf. I had no idea that it was that rotten, it has already dropped two limbs in the past week. One a 6" and yesterday a 12" limb.It doesn't take much damage for heart rot to set in but will take forever to kill a hardwood. Beetles can spread the fungus as well. I have a pine that is under attack from tip moth. It survived the storm but has a huge scar half way up the trunk so its wide open for insect attack. The pecan I am working on has some damage from past storms but no sign of heart rot.
