Title: Resealed IZH 61
Post by: Airjason on September 20, 2021, 04:42:12 PM
I put in a new piston seal in my IZH 61 yesterday. But like a beginner, I did not do the necessary checks of the barrel before test firing it. My IZH is scoped with a fixed 4 power Weaver scope, and my test distance is 25 feet. Yeah, the scope is not very clear at this short distance. Shots were going all over the target, 3 inch groups dispersed all around. Put the gun down and called it a day of disappointment. Today, I went back to it and decided to clean the bore. Turns out bore was all gunked up with a sticky residue. Used Rem brite bore  until patches were going through without resistance. Shot groups are now about a half inch and seems to be getting better though I am not expecting a one hole group with this gun.

I think you can get a one hole group with a IZH 61.
Well I should say a IZH 61 is able to make one hole groupings.
I don't think I can do it, but a good shooter can.

Yes J , I think a good shooter can do one hole groups with the IZH61. I have a setup for night time rat shooting and didn't put much money into it. Distance will be about 40 feet out in my garden. This was out of order for a while because of piston seal failure. Anyway, it is working now. Here are some photos to share.

Super, you are very lucky to have a metal breech.
I'm lucky just to have a IZH-61 with the plastic breech.
I still have a spare spring and seal

Yeah John, mines also came with a spare spring, piston seal, and extra magazine when I got it over 25 years ago. By the time I needed to change the piston seal, the spare had turned brittle and could not be used. Never had the spring break yet. The steel receiver makes it possible to drill and tap for a scope rail as you can see on my gun.

Isn't the Izh60/61 a 25mm Apex type of seal?

I got my IZH 61 piston seal on ebay from a Russian Federation source. There seems to be two types of seals for the gun, the regular and the open faced one. I would go for the regular one after seeing how air will go around the piston on my homemade teflon seal which did not work. Shipping time to me was a little over a month from Russia.

I have spare piston seals for my HW air rifles, and none of them will fit on the IZH 61. It is not 25mm.

Is the HW seal is too large? Three different ebay listings from three different sellers for Izh60/61 all list them as 25mm. I thought the Izh61 had  a wedge mounting button (like for an Apex style parachute seal), but apparently I was wrong about that (I looked up a picture of the piston).
The HW 25 & 26 mm seals are easy to mix up. I've done it and companies that have sold me Weihrauch piston seals have done it as well.

The HW77 piston seal is the closest in diameter to the IZH61 seal. But the mounting size is different and cannot be interchanged. Photos will show the difference. The HW50 seal is 25mm but even in the photo it is larger than the IZH.

On ebay look up IZH 61 piston seal, there will be several vendors selling them from Russian Federation.  I bought mine from one of them and it came in just after a months time.
