Ron, Thank you very much for that piece of advice. The stock lug indeed has a nasty habit of loosening a bit. It’s just a shame to have to remove the stock every time I want to check on it. I keep practicing. I took a step back, opened her up, thoroughly cleaned up all lubes - retrospectively I was too generous anyway. I put the Arh kit back in and decided to only very sparingly use moly paste from ARH. A very thin smudge behind the seal and a very thin band at the tail of the piston. The Vortek seal was still very tight after at least a couple tins of pellets overall and I don’t trust my drill press to size it so I put back the OEM seal. I added a plastic shim inside the piston bore using the thin cutting board material and kept it in place using heavy tar (thanks for the tip from another thread Motorhead). When testing seal fit I noticed that resistance through the chamber does not appear to be absolutely even, and there’s even a bit of a wear mark about a third of the way into the chamber that may be a sign of a slight choke. That’s it for now. There’s been some good groups and some not so good ones. It’s been cold and wet and I have to stop shooting when my fingers can’t feel the trigger well. She’s still jumpier than I’d like but other than cutting a coil or two of the spring I’m not willing to mess with her bones. I’ll just have to keep shooting her as she is. Cheers to all. A.
I’ll definitely keep practicing. I find it very intellectually disturbing that the pellet that groups the best for me is not necessarily the one with the smallest ES and SD per chronograph.
All that matters is accuracy. The crony is just a way to find out if the gun is shooting properly. think of it as a stethoscope for your gun.At the end of the day, you post your best groups or the dead animals that you have shot. You don't post your crony numbers. I have never heard somebody say, Boy my velocity was very consistant on my missed shot. -Y

I’d just like things to neatly fit the OCD little boxes in my head! I got to shoot for a little bit today when the rain stopped for a bit. We’re making progress. At 30 yards I’m getting more and more decent groups around 1/2 inch, today with AA 8.4 4.52 and Baracuda Match 4.50. Even managed one group of 5 that was 0.25” ctc which almost made me want to stop. I stretched to 44 yards and got reasonably consistent 5 shot groups at 0.6-0.8 inch ctc if I do my part as best I can. This is where I think the SD and ES of the Baracuda becomes more of a problem. I’m definitely seeing some vertical spread that I think is due to excessive speed variations. I also learned something very basic today. I thought that loading an underlever with cold hands is a challenge and I realized I was bending some skirts while pushing the pellet into the leade. Not just a little bit either. So next shooting session I’ll focus on that part as well. I’m sure I’m generating fliers. In this cold weather the setting of the second stage break of the trigger seems to vary a lot throughout the shooting session, all while the adjustment aluminium screw hasn’t moved. I don’t quite know why. It’ll be fun to continue stretching her legs. CheersA.
