I'm considering a .457. Anybody here have sub-moa accuracy at 100 yards and willing to share bullet information as to weight, design and FPS? I just haven't seen what I would call good info for the caliber and I don't want to go chasing ghost.
For informal plinking purposes, how is the accuracy at 100 yards with the 143 grain round balls? In particular, I'm curious about the swaged round balls offered by Hornady or Speer.

I wasn't able to find any of those rd balls in stock anywhere when I was looking for ammo a month ago , and they would need to be 460 dia at least, can't remember what the hornady rd balls dia where.,I think Mr hollowpoint is making slugs for the 45 ,I just don't want to pay the high prices.
My accuracy at 50 yards is minute of deer , haven't shot it past 50 , I think the heavy trigger is the biggest drawback to 100 yard accuracy, the bore is .461 on the few guns that have been slugged, I had a mold made by accurate molds that came yesterday ,haven't had a chance to cast any slugs yet ( been processing venison that the 45 took) the mold is a .461 that claims 280 gr and will fit the mag according to the specs , the mold is the 460- 280 A if IIRC ,
I have read the whole thread and i have no clue as which gun you are referring! My 50 cal Airforce Texan will do 2MOA at 100m with the 450grain Lee bullet sized to .510 and lubed in all gorves.I suspect the 45 Texan will do the same with a little load development.A 45 roundball weighing @ 143grains is way to light for the Texan and launching it around the speed of sound will wreak havoc on accuracy.

I could have sworn he was asking about the AEA challenger, I was wrong, must have had challenger on the brain...

Gun is in parts right now so I haven't implemented this yet but heres how I plan to do it. The cheapest way is get a cheap Aluminum Lee mold for 457-459 and lap it (make lead bullets drill hole, attach a stem to attach a drill, coat with lapping grit, lap and repeat till you get to .461. Might take a little while but you have a mold you can use. I have a .459 45/70 mold that won't need as much work.

Mine is back together and aired up currently. They emailed me back today wanting a picture and dimensions of the end cap with the pressure gauge. They also wanted the internal dimension of the air tube. I did not get that for them when I had the tube off.
Sub moa ten shot group on a .457 is a hard thing to do. And anything under 10 shots is not a very good indicator on accuracy. Three shots is not a group. On a good day I have shot close to moa with my .457 savage pcp but not under it. Many times 3 touching but more shots and it widens up to 40-70mm depending on the day and how good I have setup. Marko
