Sheridan 2260MB review

I have about 650 pellets through my Sheridan now and figured I would do a review on it. If you don't know this is pretty much a Crosman 2260 that comes with a metal breach with a nice dovetail mount, so you can put a scope on it right out of the box. Also this is basically a Co2 cartridge version of the Benjamin Discovery that will shoot 14.5grn pellets around 580fps and 18grn pellets around 500fps, perfect for backyard pests in the air and on the ground.
I got the rifle from airgun depot for 149 dollars and bought some pellets to round out free shipping. The rifle came packaged well with no dings or scratches. It has an impressive look, nice metal and I love the stock......I love AR15's but I am a sucker for a nice wood monte carlo stock (hey the garand was a wood monte carlo stock and it won WW2 for us). The action and trigger pull were very smooth out of the box, just a little grittiness in the action that was gone in the first Co2. The iron sites are the downfall of the stock configuration but I pulled them off and put on a centerpoint 4x32 scope I had laying around.
The rifle is pretty backyard friendly without an LDC, it has no crack really just a low pop. The trigger breaks in my guess around 4 1/2 to 5 pounds and is predictable every single time, no complaints here from a stock 150 dollar rifle. The rifle shoulders and balances extremely well. IMO the M14/M1A rifle with 20 inch barrel is the best balanced rifle to shoulder/get on the sites with and this little rifle is right there with it. It is light and handy, you will have to figure out your scope rings height for your cheek weld but when you do you will be impressed. Loading pellets is really easy, no issues at all with the scope mounted.
The not so great......barrel. My 2260 was a little pellet picky out of the box, partly due to a tiny bur out by the muzzle that failed the Q tip test. It shot JSB 18.1grn and 15grn pellets VERY well....but that was about it. It did not like crosman premiers at all, did ok with RWS at 10 yards but out at 20 yards it pretty much only shot JSB pellets. It shot polymags ok but threw a flyer every 5 or so shots. Normally this would be fine but I live in a state that cares nothing about trampling on civil rights so I can see the day when mail order pellets may go away. I wanted a barrel that would shoot what i could pick up locally if need be. I also wanted a shorter barrel so I ordered an 18" barrel from Charles Mellon and it was the best 33 dollars I have spent in a while.
In the rifles current state it sports an 18 barrel that was cut, crowned and polished that will pretty much shoot a ragged hole with any pellet. It still loves JSB but RWS superdomes are a close second. It will shoot half inch at 15 yards with Beeman Kodiak, Crosman premier dome and hollowpoint, H&N Barracuda and Polymags. I put a TKO LDC on it and to say that it is quiet is an understatement. I can shoot all day without anyone knowing anything. I get about 33 good shots on cartridge and use Pellgun oil on every other cartridge. Another positive note is that the rifle is easy to work on, I had the whole thing tore apart replacing the barrel and it is very easy to maintain. I use it for just target shooting but it has taken 5 ground squirrels since I have had it and all of those were with the original 24 inch barrel, JSB and polymag pellets.
If you have a backyard with 10-25 yards of space and want a .22 caliber air rifle this one deserves a hard look. If you know your neighbors well and they are cool I would not even worry about an LDC. The LDC just puts the icing on the cake though if you need that little extra hush factor. The 18 inch barrel with the TKO has made this the perfect backyard .22 caliber laser beam.

Thanks for a great review, I have been eye balling this rifle for sometime now for my son and daughter and your review has finally sold me on buying one. I did not know you could get a after market barrel for it, and if you can, could you please post the information for the barrel you bought. I believe this rifle would be fine for taking squirrel up to 20 yards for whenever dad would like to use it, Thanks again

Sure, this is his website
http://mellonair.myfreesites.net/barrels.
Give him about 3 weeks from the time you order. I chose an 18" and with the TKO brake my total length came out just about perfect IMO. It is a great backyard air rifle if you want a little bit more punch than the common .177 guns. If you want a quiet, accurate .177 out of the box take a look at the Umarex Fusion. I have one of those also and it is really really accurate for the money.

This is a Old post, thats Fine, as this may help someone else that owns a 2260MB rifle. I have a 2260MB, and it is Mostly all stock except checked the barrel for burrs. I also polished all trigger contact points, and Adjustable trigger spring tension, added the three Trigger screws to make the trigger adjustable. I have the 6.5" long TKO moderator, and THE BEST Modification by Far, is i added a 10 shot Gravity Fed Magazine, by GravMags 9S. I load 10 pellets, all at once, very easy to load even with a scope on the gun. Then you can shoot as Fast as you can rack the bolt. Zero Misfeeds, NONE! I also have the same companies Iron sights they are Very Good fully adjustable Rear sight, front sight is a TRU Glo type. Both Sights Mount to the gun so they dont get bumped around at all.
