The majority of the few airguns that I have come from yard sales and swap-meets. Passing up on the purchase of something that's potentially salvageable can be tough.
This is a fine example of what the swap-meet had to offer a while back. A February of '71 Crosman 760. Other than replacing the broken pump-piston with one I had on-hand, cleaning the interior of the pump tube and lubricating it with some special-sauce it's unmolested. It actually shoots pretty well! I haven't decided if a restoration is in order. Perhaps some oil and steel-wool to take off the surface rust. It was originally only interesting because it's complete and many of the parts aren't available anymore. Now I use it to train the neighborhood kids. Not a bad deal for a ten-spot.

I had wanted a Crosman 101 for some time and when this "project" came up for sale I bit on it.
Not much of the original finish left, the rear sight was cut in half at some point, and she won't pump up.
I have since purchased a reseal kit and plan on working on her this winter.

Picked this late model Dan for $40, needed total reseal, as the wrong lubricants were probably used.

Another deal I got was 2 1400's and 2 760's, fopr $60. There were enough parts to get one 1400 up and shooting, and one 760, still need to get a seal kit for the 2nd 760, one has rounded stock fitment and one is the square style.

One of my favorite things is to take lost causes and bring them back to shootable, pumper, Co2 or springer it does not matter.
The 1956 Benjamin 312 would not pump up and looked like it had sat in a swamp for decades. After complete rebuild using the right tools it is an awesome shooter and cleaned up really nice.
The applied logo Crossman 101 was basically a parts gun, but I took a chance, I gathered the needed seals and missing parts from Rick at Precision Pellet and after a few conversations with Rick it is a nice little rifle.
The Early Smoothbore Diana Model 25 was a gamble, when I got it I discharged upon cocking, was rusty on external surface and stock was grimy. Internals were good, found correct stock screws, new lube and cleaned up. The correct screws fixed the discharge issue on lockup, now it shoots as good as it looks.

A few more of my lost cause builds, some of these are my favorite shooters and the straight logo 101 is super accurate. It was almost a parts gun though. When I bought it the seller said it would not pump up, what he did not disclose was the threads in the receiver we’re striped so the internal lock nut could not seal the air chamber to the exhaust valve. Again I purchased needed parts from Rick and retreaded the receiver and made a new lock nut for new treads, this fix worked great and shoots as good as it looks.
The Sheridan was a wreck, would not pump up, had a pump lever the was repaired with JB Weld where the rivet hole had grown to large and the roll pin holes were in need of repair because someone used threaded bolts and nuts at some point. The Sheridan now sports many parts from Mac1 including the billet cocking lever and seals, and is basically Tim’s exhaust valve and other internal mods away from being a steroid build. This one is vert accurate as well.
The Falke Modell 70 is one I pursued for a long time, new lube, new piston seal and spring have now been added. The exterior is clean, the stock was cleaned up and refinished, one day I will have hot blued.
The Crosman 113 was a cheap surprise as I knew nothing about bulk fill Co2 guns, heck I did not know such an airgun existed. I told the person I needed to do some research into it, I did and figured for his $25.00 asking price I would gamble on it. Well a complete rebuild and accessories purchased from Mac1 for Co2 bulk filling this one is a great shooter, but I have only shot it about 20 times, The gas charge I gave it in August is still holding, just shot it a couple of times last week.

You seem to be gifted at finding the deals, Steve. Those are some excellent airguns. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the 760 with the square stock inlet. I can't recall ever seeing on in person.
Elroy, you're one of the people here that I find inspirational. Glad to see you posting your wins!
Thinking about that 760 the post is about, it will get some love this winter. We'll see how much steel wool, oil and elbow grease can accomplish. I don't want to put too much into it as the kids are kinda hard on it.

Elroy, how did you repair the wallowed out pivot pin hole in your Sheridan? It looks great!
I was dinking around organizing some airgun photos earlier today and ran across one of the 760's piston as I found it.

The look of that 101 happened purely by accident. When I got it the front muzzle cap was missing, after searching everywhere I called Rick at precision pellet. Rick stated he did not have OEM type but had brass ones made. He told me they cost more but just added something to the 101. I decided to get it, from there the clean and polish part of the project took off. To make things match I had to paint the center band brass and use a clear sealer. Once I was finished with the metal and with everything assembled except the wood all metal got a clear coat applied to seal the polished look.
A very fun project and one I hope to repeat again, but the next time I do I plan to mold and cast a few brass center bands

Thank you, I used small 100% brass washers I found at our local Ace Hardware store. Installation took some patience. Knowing I had to solder them in place, I had to come up with a way to keep the barrel from separating while heating up the repair areas.
What I found to solve the problem was to use a cold wet rag on the outside as close to the repair as possible and another stuffed in the tube also slightly behind the repair area. I found this allowed me to heat the area I wanted with little impact to the barrel and tube. Special Notes: To keep water from getting to heated repair area the tube needs a slight tilt away from repair. Once the first washer is in stalled push a solid pin through it to the opposite side check alignment, slip second washer(s) in place and solder, drive pins out when cool.
Once the washers were attached small hand files were used to reduce the edges and form to the tube. Then 3000 and 6000 grit sandpaper was used to remove file marks.
After this the tube was cleaned and painted using duracoat semigloss black, the resealed and assembled.
Your 760 piston looks like it is already missing the piston top making it a ready made candidate for one of the Mac1 flat top piston seals.

My find, which I had a past post about, was a sad 1971 Blue Streak that I noticed in a pile of old tools and junk at a trading post. After a reseal kit, complete wood strip, a few coats of True Oil and a lot of coats of Brass Black, it shoots great. I was happy to find it hitting 690fps on average with Sheradan pellets on 8 pumps. I was lucky it was all there but just stored badly for many years. It looked like it may have been outside in a shed or barn as the wood finish was almost gone. After and before:: (http://)

Wow, Van. That came out great! Beautiful wood. It was probably sitting in the corner of a shed for a lot of years.
Thanks for filling me in, Elroy. I don't know that I have that kind of patience, but dang... Your results are amazing. A friend built a kiln a while back and we did some custom casting with it. It's amazing what you can do with one.
I feel you on the ornery, Scott. Milo has two adult cats and two German Shepherds to deal with on a constant basis. Hoping that he turns out to be nice cat.
