Title: Matches for 2022 - Divisions instead of Caliber? - Closed
Post by: rsterne on November 17, 2021, 03:37:19 PM
In the most recent Match thread (2021-#8) I asked about using NUAH Divisions next year, instead of posting the results by caliber, and the idea seems to have support, hence the reason for this poll.... We currently post overall results (which should continue), but then break the results down by caliber.... Instead of doing that, I am proposing that starting in 2022 we show results for each NUAH Division.... The shooter would have to post what Division they are in when posting an entry, so that the scorekeeper doesn't have to look you up.... and post your caliber, to allow multiple entries as we do now....

Our scoring system currently uses the lower score for a line touch, to help even out the difference in calibers, and that should continue.... Participation in the matches is very low, and the mentality seems to be "if I can't shoot 50/50, why bother?".... We need to change that.... Scoring you within your Division will pit you against shooters of similar skill level, encourage participation, and through continued practice help you to upgrade to the next Division sooner....

Your match entry target can be accepted for an upgrade, providing you meet the other NUAH rules, and post in the "Long Range Club" gate asking for that upgrade.... You would still be able to enter a target in each caliber you shoot, to allow you to shoot more.... I would think that after you shoot 3 targets at a level higher than your Division, you should be encouraged to upgrade (but I think most would do so immediately anyways)....

Let us know what you would like to see for next year....

Shows how few folks pay attention to the Matches, part of the discrepancy is that I'm sure that those of us who did vote (I did); have probably looked in more than once (I have, four times I think)-so the total number of viewers is even lower...
However, if you were one of those who was just interested enough to view the topic, then why haven't you voted/joined in on the discussion?
NUAH isn't too hard to achieve; even with with a springer-it just takes some perseverance and practice... So come on in and join the fun!

Ima wannabee

Don't have anything that will reach 100  yards, let alone hit a target at that distance. BUT, maybe in the near future that may change.

I look in on the NUAH threads from time to time in order to get updates and information. That's why I'm here now - but since I don't participate at this distance, I don't feel it would be proper for me to vote.

I see a Xisco sentry in your sigline; have you ever tried shooting at 100 yards?
You might surprise yourself  ;)

I haven't really tried to hit 100y except casually so after seeing small groupings by others, I've just not attempted NUAH.

Part of the reason for purchasing the Xisico was to see how well it would perform at long distance.

It has a leak and I need to get that fixed before I can start shooting . . . Then I can shift my focus to 100 yards.

I would love to try my hand at getting into NUAH, but I don't have anywhere to shoot 100 yards.  :'(

The requirements for membership in NUAH are not all that difficult.... You need to hit the 8 ring, which is 4" in diameter, 3 times out of 5 shots at 100 yards.... Once you find where you have to hold, on a calm day its not that hard.... Try it, you'll llike it!....

Changing to using Divisions for the NUAH Matches will allow fun competition for all shooters.... You can reach 100 yards with a Canadian non-PAL airgun that shoots under 500 fps.... With a gun that shoots 850 fps, sighted at 35 yards, the drop at 100 is only a couple of feet....  8)

Howdy Bob,
Been awhile since I have been on GTA.  Been a . . . interesting year.

I tend to shoot either off a bi-pod or from the sling supported prone, with a shooting jacket, shooting glove and shooting mat (NRA High Power style from the 600yrd line).
I am never going to score as well as someone shooting bench rest.  And that is fine.

Shooting in a division I think would provide for a degree of friendly competitiveness amongst GTA members, and while I do enjoy the competition with others, I am really competing against myself.

I voted for the divisions/caliber.

Hope this helps!

I voted for the Division. Hopefully it will get more folks in the game.

This poll is closed, and 9 out of 10 who voted want to see scoring by NUAH Division next year, instead of Caliber.... There will still be a list of overall scores, of course....

Kevin and I will get the new required target rules and this change incorporated into the NUAH rules shortly....  Thanks to all who voted....

This is exactly why I came to GTA.  Getting in-person (even informal) matches together is a challenge, nevermind Covid.  This is the perfect answer.  Thank you all for the time you spend setting up, scoring and responding to everyone.  If I'd have been a member at the time, I'd have voted for the Divisions as well.  I'm looking forward to shooting with you guys (virtually anyway).  Here's hoping it won't take me too long to join the club . . .

Steve, thanks for your interest.... The first monthly match for 2022 has been posted....

There is a link to the rules for the match, and NUAH membership, in that post.... Print off some regulation targets and give it a try.... It only takes 3 hits out of 5 shots on a 4 MOA circle at 100 yards to become a NUAH Member....  8)

Thanks for the info, Bob.  I've downloaded targets, and have everything in hand BUT MY RIFLE!.  Rest assured, once it's here, I'll be back.

Sorry to ask this but HOW do we submit our targets?

Scan or photograph them and then upload them to the Forum as part of your post (as an attachment)....

I've slowly been preparing for NUAH membership, have been in process of clearing out a longer shooting lane, acquiring a printer and etc...

Missed out on the Voting, honestly haven't visited the "Target shooting matches" gate very often. Previously never gave much thought to pushing AG's past 50-60 yards and always considered myself more of a "plinker". While all the rules are straight forward, I imagine most folks don't have access to the necessary range, have difficulty acquiring official targets, or time and weather just don't line up for them. Also have to take into consideration, some individuals have no interest in "official" competition and just have airguns for various other purposes.

I say this with much respect and not to "ruffle any feathers", but to gain more participation in the various matches, they could probably use more promotion. Also, allowing the use of "store bought" targets may gain a few more participants, even if it's just a certain kind that's commonly available...

Getting a dedicated individual or one of the various target manufactures onboard to make official GTA targets on cardstock could be very beneficial, both for promotion for the matches here within GTA and easy access to "official targets", if sold at various box stores and/or online retailers. Just some thoughts from a simple man, I have little to no idea of what work would be involved on putting things in motion. And of course, any individual or company who would consider manufacturing these targets would probably have to see if any profits could be had (at least to cover equipment/manufacturing costs), which muddys the waters some. Maybe offering them somewhere here, available by mail could be a possibility, if not already available. (Honestly not sure if physical copies are available, I haven't searched)

I'm looking forward to participating one day, until then best wishes go out to all that do. Take care and be safe.

Zack, thanks for your comments.... We have had difficulties in the past allowing non-standardized targets, so voted last year to require NUAH targets only for both Membership and the Monthly Matches.... However, you can purchase them by following the link in this thread....

https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=184417.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=184417.0)

or maybe not?!?!?.... I suggest you contact that vendor and inquire about NUAH targets, they WERE making them....  ::)

Alternately, if you post a thread looking for targets, I would bet a NUAH member can help you if you don't have a printer....
