Title: Iguana quicky No.3 (Video)
Post by: Orion on March 10, 2019, 03:07:49 PM
Hi all the hunters!

Allow me to share my iguana pest control video No.3. Here you can see 2 iguanas checking my backyard. I just noticed I was using the JSB 25gr. pellets instead of the NSA slugs I was using for hunting. But we can see they do well if the shot placement is correct. The second iguana was not small, was not a monster either but JSB did the job.

I hope you like it!

Nice shooting, JSB’s will do a good job on game.  Personally I like the polymags for close range (50 yards or less) they dump the energy into whatever it hits.

Hi Randall,

I can get around 40 regulated shots with the Taipan and after than I can still shot a magazine and I'll be on the same speed before losing velocity, so the answer is 50

Orion, thank you for answering so quickly! That is a lot of high power shots for a .25 cal :). Setting aside funds for a high power longer range .25 or .22 and the Veteran is one of the 3 I am contemplating!

Shoot any questions you might have about it. Next week I might do a video review for the Veteran... will see if I have the time.

Nice video Orion. Try those baracuda Hunters (not h&n extreams) their
generally more accurate & they expand great. :D

Hi Tim, I haven’t forgot the Baracudas, you always recommend them. For the .25 O have too many pellets but I have an order in their way in .22 for my Liberty, I will use them as my first ammo to take my first Iguana with it. Hope they group well with the Liberty

I’d think now that you have the experience under your belt & with the warm weather, you should have no problem beating 37. Not to mention their numbers are growing.  🦎

I started counting when I bought the Taipan, but before that I had a lot of them with the springers.. I was not counting but I think I got more with the springers than with the Taipan. They were so used to be on the property that I could get a couple with my bare hands, less than 10 feet and will stay no problem. Just after I start trimming them with the Diana and the TX is when started to keep the distance, and it's when the Taipan enters in the scene. I think last year in total I got more than 100. I can only imagine in what *(&^ I'll be living today if I didn't decide to buy my airguns

Good shooting, the impacts looked awesome and those iguanas went down hard. They look to be tough critters, you made it look easy.

Hi Buddy,

This thing can grow big, specially the males. Measuring the tale they can reach 6ft. I don’t have big ones around because I’ve been taming the population but I’ve seen big ones nearby

Hi Luis,

Thanks for the kind words. It’s not me, it’s the Taipan, this rifle is the best thing I did to keep the iguanas at bay.

Nice shooting!  We don't get too many iguana videos as compared to other small game, so thanks for posting.

Where on the head do you normally aim?

Harry

Harry you need a brain shot or a spine shot, in this video Im using both. For a brain shot you need to aim behind the eye, see the first iguana, maybe it’s a bit hard to see the crosshair because that iguana was super close.

On the second iguana I did a neck shot, that will impact the spine and shootdown everything behind the shot, the iguana might move a bit with these type of shots because it take a few seconds for these cold blooded animals to expire, once I beheaded one with a machete and it keep blinking after a few minutes, this being said, the best shot is behind the eye, with that is just DRT. Thanks for asking, this is a great topic, took me a while to find out the exact point.

Thanks.  I saw what I thought was the neck shot on the 2nd one, but I wasn't sure if you were using 1 of the other mil-dots to shoot the brain.

That's some nice footage!  Is the .25 overkill in some areas or is it really not an issue?
