Yesterday, I grabbed my 1322, which I hadn't shot in a good six months or so. Looked at the notes about pellets on the butt stock in blue masking tape, and grabbed the top 4. This gun is the duplicate of my 1377 but in .22 caliber. That is, steel breech, decent scope, and skeleton buttstock. Both airguns have small adjustable LED flashlights mounted securely to the scope tubes. Stock barrel. This one wears a Centerpoint four power non-AO scope, but with the objective lens adjusted for the range I do night ratting at, 7 yards. Some may scoff at the scope, but I'm 65 with eye problems (astigmatism etc, etc), and a scope that gives me sharp cross hairs AND a sharp target at the same time are golden. This scope is clear as a bell, and four power works good for me for this purpose. My notes said Crosman pointer/hunter pellets, and still showed that preference. Then the RWS Superpoints, which grouped about the same. Tried Gamo Match, and nope. Lastly, I have like 5 tins of the discontinued Daisy wad cutters in .22. These did well just as my notes said, but not quite as good as the Crosman pointed and RWS Superpoints. For ratting, I'll stick with these two pellets. Also, they shoot to the same point of impact, so are interchangeable. Eight pumps and these things go through both sides of a corrugated soup can with real authority. I would not want to be a rat hit by these sledgehammers.
My cat, Stumpy, who adopted us about a year ago, got a good sized rat early this morning. We have a chicken coop here, so rats tend to go in at night. hope to take my 1377 carbine a-ratting tonight if it's not raining tonight.
Today I shot what I thought was just a short range target and plinking pellet(Daisy wadcutters) in my 880.I’ve always heard wadcutters were’nt very accurate past 25 to 30 yards?Wwwwweeeeelll, they held 3/8 to 5/8” groups to 45 yds.(although the blunt nose did drop a bit more than usual shooting in a 2 to 4 mph cross wind). The only thing that gave me any trouble was doping the wind.Wind finally caught me at 60 yds. I had 3 in a inch and one eighth” triangle, the wind caught the other two and pushed them 2” to the right.Unless I find something better, I think these $1.98 for 250 pellets just became my go to for Everything!I’ve heard others say their 880 would’nt shoot wadcutters like that, but luckily both of mine do.I stand in awe of this $35.00 ,plastic, 700fps. rated air rifle and the wadcutters. All i’ve done to them is tape mod the bbl. and cc shim the trigger.
