Yard Sale Scope
(1/1)
Van:
My wife's brother found this for $1 at a yard sale and gave it to me because he knows I'm always working on and shooting guns of all kinds. I researched it to see if the missing special double dovetail mount and caps for the adjustment screws could still be found. No luck as it was made in Japan in the 70's by Bushnell with Bausch and Lomb optics. The bright clear adjustable 3x-7x optics on this one are great and will focus perfect even down to across the room distances. The long dovetail rail under the scope makes 1" rings fit good and tight top to the bottom but I need to make some shims to fill the gaps caused by that dovetail rail. Thinking about cutting some hard black rubber or Teflon sheet as I have some of both. These are highly regarded on the rimfire forums. The original mount is nearly impossible to find they say.

That scope looks much like the one I had on my first 760 ??? was bought at a sporting goods store in the early 70's long gone by now :)

I did find one vintage scope web site that had a few NOS ones in the box for $299, one in good shape used with mount for $149 and a few rougher ones with no mount for $49 to $79 on Ebay.
The mounts never sold separately. I'll use it on one of my air guns because the 1" rings do hold solid on the smaller scope but need a way to shim sides. It's too nice not to try to use it.

Since you have very little money in it, I guess it would be okay to use on an airgun although I would caution against using it on a springer if you want to keep it functional, unless the information you found on the website indicates that the scopes are airgun rated. Otherwise, you may find that the scope breaks rather soon, given the bidirectional recoil of a springer airgun.

You are right about that. I plan to use it on a pump gun. It will do fine on this one I put together from a 2200 tube with 1377 flat top piston/valve and Benjamin 342 stock wood. Has a 2260 barrel, trigger pack & steel breech. Field of view is surprisingly large.
