I did the same thing on the same lathe with a springfield .303 barrel , took about 6 hrs all in one shot.. my only advice is to use a carbide insert tool to not have to fight the heat and tool wear.

Yep. Carbide inserts. Found a butt load at an old shop I demoed so they were free.

Yes. Rocker1's old lathe. He did a lot of upgrades on it and suckered me into buying it.

With all the stuff he threw in? I got a heck of a deal and he didn't shoot me!

I've thought about buying one of those but I never expected to ever turn the OD on a barrel with it, just make smaller stuff with it is all, I'm sure it'd be a lot of fun to tinker with.
