Springer only guy now has a Sheridan Blue Streak....

....and needs a primer.
My Aunt just gave me a working original C series in .20, Ser.# 3819XX which seems to put it at 1982 manufacture. I'm looking forward to using it, but don't know much about them beyond odd bits I've bumped into online.
Is the max 8 pumps or 10 pumps? (I've heard both)
I don't know how to maintain one. (and its been in storage for a long time)
What are the in's & out's of scoping one?
And anything else that you all know but I don't.
Thanks all!

Every 100 shots or so a few drops of ND 30 wt motor oil, Pellgun oil, or secret sauce. 8 pumps max, you will know why at about 6 pumps
Benjamin .20 pellets ok for plinking, JSB for accuracy.
A Sheridan inter-mount or the like many prefer to do a scout scope style mount where they use a pistol long eye releif scope mid way up the barrel to make loading and pumping easier on you and the gun.

Some chrony numbers -
13.58 H&N Baracuda:
6 pumps = 599.7 fps / 10.84 fpe
599.3
600.6
599.3
8 pumps = 664.4 fps / 13.308 fpe
665.0
663.7
9 pumps = 687.2 fps / 14.237 fpe
(my version of a proof load)
By comparison, I ran a few of the same tin through my early R9 and they averaged 695 fps / 14.58 fpe.
8 pumps is only 30 fps off that mark.
7 degrees and pretty windy outside - the infrared light kit pays off again....

Thank you Shawn.
It turned up while we were going through some of my late Uncle's things. And we think that it originally belonged to a different Uncle of mine, also passed. Its a really nice thing to have turned up. To me, it kinda falls in the same category as my grandfathers single shot .22.

Also, I pulled the trigger after firing the 9 pump shot and there was just a slight puff of air. Significantly less than what a single pump produces.
Does that (and the 23 fps improvement) indicate that the gun is actually using that 9th pump? From what I have read, high performance improvements are all about exhausting the air in the reservoir. I guess I'm wondering if A. I could damage the rifle by pumping beyond 8, and B. if my rifle is a legit 9 pumper since there are exceptions to every rule...
Thanks!

Some good advice already given above.
I will add that I don't recommend pumping over 8 strokes & yes it could be damaged. Really, it is a waste of energy [ YOUR'S ]. An additional 23fps won't do anything for you, anyway. I use 3 shots for plinking , 5 for small game, closer shots, & 8 for larger game & longer distance shots. Those pellets you have will shoot good, but I prefer JSB 13.73 for accuracy, & Benj. Sher. 14.3 [ discontinued ] for hunting due to better penetration. ALWAYS store it with a couple of pumps in it.
A peep sight added is a desirable feature, & helps us with weak eyesight.
You have a great rifle !

I'll recommend you Pump it with your "off" hand holding it over the top of the breech.
Holding it by the pistol-grip portion of the stock put unnecessary stress on the brass / solder joint and I personally believe this caused a majority of the barrel separation failures more than the perceived rear sight clamps.
See this pic from the Sheridan manual.

Thank you both very much!
I'm not really looking for power, just trying to understand if the pump limit is about valve performance or about preventing damage. For now, its enough for me to know that its a bad idea. I like a little power, I like not abusing my guns a lot more.
And Scott - thanks for the pumping method tip! Otherwise, I would keep doing it the wrong way.

No problem, common mistake.
The later models had a plastic "hand guard" between the breech and rear sight to promote the proper way.

Definitely get some lube on the pump arm pivot points & piston.
As stated before, store the rifle with 3 pumps.
And yes, put a Willams sight on her.

More questions -
1. Storing with 1 pump isn't enough?
2. Can you lube the piston without disassembly?
3. Mine just gave me excellent groups on 5 pumps. Truly excellent, and thats with old eyes and a ramp front sight that I know will lead me astray vertically (blurry tip + blurry POA = vertical string) but POA shifts left on 8. I'm thinking that I'll need to tweak the front sight. Thoughts?
4. Is a tear down & rebuild something that anyone can handle, or is it better left to the people who know them best?

Don't "tweak" the front sight, unless you can see the blade is already bent, being brass it is too easy to damage.
Windage and elevation adjustments are done on the rear sight.
And yes, you oil it through the cocking slot when the pump arm is open... same with the pump linkage pivot points.
As far a rebuilding goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

To move the windage on the rear sight, there are 2 screws on the front of the sight, one on each side. Barely loosen one & tighten the other. Do not use anything like WD40 to oil these rifles.

Thank you Steve.
Already sighted in (didn't take much), the problem is the horizontal POI change to the left between power levels.
I'll play around with it more - it could always be operator error. But if one sight is wanted and the other isn't, that would explain it.
It would also explain why the elevation was spot on but the windage needed to be tweaked to the right.
You know. Maybe.
At least it sounds good right now. 😅

They might sound like a lot of work till you realize you only need 3-4 pumps for plinking.

Congrats , you now own what I consider to be one of the best airguns ever made.
That just my opinion, but I will go to the grave swearing it's a fact.
You do not want to tweak the front sight, just adjust the rear.
Simply loosen one screw and tighten the other to pull it either direction.
Obviously you've got a screw for elevation adjustment.
I personally recommend a William's 5dsh peep sight over a scope because it's just a great package and I'm not much into scopes, mac1 has one of the most recommended scope mounts available if you do want to go that route.

Thank you David, for all of your tips.
But I may not have stated my concern about the sights very well, so I'm gonna take another swing at it for everyone following the thread....
I'm looking at a front sight that seems a little off to the right, as if someone has already moved it, or it was unintentionally bent. And my POI changes noticeably at 10 yards as I increase the number of pumps. That likely indicates that the axis of the sights is not in alignment with the axis of the barrel, and that the pellet path only crosses the "line of sights" at one distance from the muzzle.
I'm pretty unlikely to mount a scope, so getting the axis of my sights trued to my pellet path at as long a distance as I can manage will be important to me. As soon as I can get to a 50 yard range I'll see what can be done.
I promise not to smash it with a rock or use a pair of Vise Grips to "tweak" it..... 😰
Thanks again all!
