So I have only had like 2 scopes die on me across my shooting spectrum (AG/PB/Etc.) and those scopes rather drastically lost zero that could not be re zeroed or maintained.
Now I have a cheap scope (Monstrom) on a PCP Air Arms / CZ S200 and ran into the following. I am only asking here on the AG board because this is all I have used this scope for.
So a few nights ago I was shooting the S200T and had 2 “wild” shots. By wild I mean well outside of my itty bitty group but not off target or anything drastic. I blew it off as maybe the gun had a air issue or the pellets were jacked up etc.
Well, a couple days later I pick the gun up to shoot and notice the crosshairs are noticeably cocked to the right. Now this is a Low power PCP and while the mounting screws were a TAD loose I couldn’t move the scope with my hands so I think the reticle went cockeyed on me. I still shot a group that did group but larger than usual. Loaded up a new mag. Reticle back to center line of the rifle and proceeds to shoot 2 or 3 excellent groups.
So, my question is, has anybody ever had a scope reticle go wonky and then possible right itself, for the time being anyway?
Now the scope in question did spend a little time on a springer so it has seen some “abuse” if you will beyond the PCP.
Thanks all,
Chris

Haven't had a recticle rotate or break yet. Have read about it, usually takes some jarring of sorts (like on a springer or dropped off the the tailgate, etc.).
Most common failure I've had is unable to maintain zero and/or loss of adjustment. The inner tube spring(s) give out, or something to this effect. But what you've expirenced isn't unheard of. The etched glass recticles tend to rotate while wire recticles break to my understanding. Haven't heard of this on PCP's, until now.
Following to see what others say.

The scope is broken. Rotating reticles can happen with both wire and glass reticles. It's a sure fire way of knowing its bad. Consider yourself lucky to have an obvious indicator. The reticle should be plum and level with the adjustment knob. They're sometimes initially installed crooked. Particularly in cheaper scopes. They may hold zero fine but adjustments won't track properly. I always check the reticle on new scopes with a level and a plum bob. If you like the gun treat it and yourself to a new (hopefully higher quality) scope.

As above, if the reticle is moving, time for a new scope. It may bounce back into position as you've seen, but even if it's just a little off when it does, your POI will change. Not worth adding another variable in your shooting, in my opinion.

I did have a reticle rotate on me once, it was mounted on my Diana 350 N-Tec and it busted the reticle ring/nut loose-one it's loose, it's loose... And will bounce around forevermore.
'Fraid you need a new scope

Thanks all. I actually bought the scope by accident some time back and figured I’d give it a go.
Gun will get new glass as it’s technically set up for my daughter. Being a PCP opens up a much wider selection then my normal one but I may still go with a springer rated scope just in case I want to move things around. I dunno yet. It may get a Leupold adj. objective 3x9. I will figure it out after the holidays.

ive spun them before on springers, once on a brand new bargain 24X which i tried to return and they told me to dispose of it and sent me another one ... what i decided to do with nothing to lose is see how it works so disassembled it from the rear .. the reticle is actually wire in a threaded brass ring and then there was a locking ring piece if i remember right ... anyway it was all loose sovwas able to turn the pieces out easily with a jewelers driver .. i decided to use a toothpick to put a trace amt of loctite on the threads down right where the rings seat, put the pieces in and aligned it, pretty impossible to get it tight without somespecial tool ... then i left it open several days so no loctite fumes would be trapped in there ... this was more than 5 years ago and that scope, although a cheapo bargain scope, currently is still serving duty on one of my pcps ..

You mentioned slightly loose screws on the scope mounts, that could allow things to drift out of alignment, try snugging them up and retest

Yes I have had scopes go "wonky" and then start working/hold zero, and weeks later go wonky again. No explanation for it, I didn't bump the gun or scope. They just go when it's time, and some of them start going wonky only part of the time, driving you crazy.
