Today I received my John Thomas tuned TX200. Those who say this gun is tuned at the factory are either ill informed or have low expectations. Rifle came back with an 8 oz trigger that fells like a thin icicle snapped. Cocking effort reduced about 25%. I shot 5 shot groups at 25 yds today. The first 2 measured in the mid 3s center to center. The third one was a fine .121. Fine work and a short turn around. I highly recommend John Thomas.

Sounds great. I know a few people who have John tune their guns. And they are always happy.
Tuning makes a gun much nicer to shoot. People who don't think so probably haven't shot a nicely tuned gun. Post some pictures of the gun and targets.

Ron, my wife says I am technologically challenged. I doubts pictures will be forth coming. My wife's evaluation is kinder than reality I am afraid. If I could text a picture from my phone here, that would be about the top end of my skills. I guess I spend to much effort on shooting, pretty much none on modern technologhy, lol.

My 2013 TX200 was touched on by the Motörhead back then.
He played with the trigger and put a DELRIN spring follower in.
Until last year it shot at 900ps with 8.64 grain H&N FTT pellets.
It started slowing down and I start missing (more than I normally do) at FT.
I ordered a tuneup kit from PA.
I put it in.
The kit came with a new top hat but when I removed the original spring there was no top hat.
As installed the new kit was shooting at 830fps with the aforementioned pellets???
I took it apart again and struck the spring sleeve on a piece of wood and voila, a top hat fell out.
It was funny though, it was in backwards.
I assume done by Pyramyd Air to keep the speed up.
The top hat looked fine to me so I installed correctly in the spring and put everything back together.
Cocks nice and smooth, not needing that sometimes needed extra bump to engage the safety.
Scott’s (Motörhead) follower fit perfectly and the gun fires so smooth at exactly 800fps, a pellet perched on top of the reticle adjustment knob on the HAWKE scope, does not move.
I have to get used to shooting at 12 fpe instead of 15 but I am just punching paper and shooting FT targets anyway.
The kit also came with a new cocking shoe which I did not use, so I have some spare…

Great results from your pro tune. I'm also surprised so many people claim this gun feels "tuned from the factory." I have shot several OEM TXs including a fairly late model .177 and they all had vibration and benefitted from trigger adjustment. I own a late model HC that actually did feel "tuned" out of the box in that it had no twang at all, but the spring was packed with thick black grease from the factory. I installed an ARH "slightly softer" spring in mine and relubed conservatively with moly, and it is much easier to cock and still vibration free with a minimal decrease in velocity.

Enjoy that new rifle Jeffppc. I’ve never heard a bad thing about John’s work. And as far as “tuned from the factory”, mine must have skipped that part of assembly. All were buzzy and twangy and in need of some work

One other point..
You may have discovered it can sometimes require a little extra shove on the cocking handle to fully engage the safety.
On mine it was that case and I am sure it was because the top hat was installed backwards and increased the pre-load resulting in some additional speed in the PA sold rifles.
When I replaced everything and installed them correctly with the rebuild kit that additional force on the cocking arm was no longer required.
My hunting partner in Kansas has a TX200 as well and while he has shot it a lot he has never used in extensive competition like yours truly.
As we owners know the weakest link in the TX200 and Pro Sport is the cocking shoe.
A few weeks ago he was shooting and while cocking the rifle the rod connecting the cocking arm to the cocking shoe came out from under the stock.
I told him he probably broke the cocking shoe because it is poorly made of very cheap pot metal.
He watched a couple YouTube videos and then tore the rifle apart and there it was, in several pieces.
He order a new one and some good lubricant.
He put it all back together and everything is fine.
I know there was someone actually making shoes out of solid steel on a milling machine a couple of years ago here in the states but I don’t think they are available anymore.
BTW…My partner also found his top hat was installed backwards when he removed the spring and piston..

Oh man what timing! My TX200HC started to have the safety engagement issue just this morning. Time to open her up, hehe. Thanks for the tip!

Totally understandable. When I got into air guns a few years ago it was completely on my own. I’d watch every video I could find about tuning, and when I’d hear the difference in shot cycle before and after I knew there was more to it than what comes from the factory. Hopefully the sport continues to grow and more shooters and events get closer to home. There are a few FT clubs and events within a few hours of me and this year I’ll be giving it a try. Looking forward to the experience.

My centerfire bench rifles all have 1.5 oz triggers, so 8 does not feel real light to me. The more I learn to shot this rifle the more impressed I am with it. At this time it seems to like 4.51 PA Diablos 8.4 the best. I have some of the same in 4.52 I will try tomorrow. It shoots the same in HNFTT pretty well but it seems I need to work at it harder with rhem. I want to try some just over 10 also then I will get a supply ordered.

Gun is great. The limitation is me. Pretty much like centerfire bench rifles.

Dude, JIPA, Nitrocrushr, Motorhead are all people whom I have had used in some way or another and I have NOT A BAD experience what so ever. Very much the opposite. They're all are awesome
