Hello Gentlemen,
I've been working on a "new" 1322. I bought a bunch of stuff from Buck Rail from tips on this forum and couldn't be happier with the products and customer service. I bought the 5 and 9 shot Gravmag's too. I went to Mac1's site and purchased his flat head piston not realizing the gun didn't have a flat head valve.... I know...just don't say it.
I mostly have and restore Vintage American air rifles. The 1322 is a bit new to me but I love the almost unlimited mods you can do with it. Reminds me of my 10-22.
So here's the deal, I spoke with Tim at Mac1 and he said I could send the valve in to him to machine flat. I see there are other options out there as well.
I'm not interested in pumping 25 times (Getting Old
) but would like more power with relatively the same amount of pumps.
Any thoughts and knowledge would be appreciated!
Cheers!
Rich

I am not familiar with the Mac 1 FTP, but if the piston is adjustable... you can use any FTP valve. It has been said here that it is best to use matched sets from the same source when going FTP, but as long as the piston is adjustable... you should be fine.
I have mixed and matched before; I even had a friend in our Tool Room at work machine a coned valve into an FTP then used it with a Mellon piston. Never had any issues. I am not sure what MAC 1 is charging to do the machining, but you might check cost with what's available already machined. Mellon is the least expensive and he does fantastic work, but it takes weeks to get orders placed from him.
An FTP will help you get a couple or few less pumps. Going lower valve volume will get you a couple or few less even still. When you pump that many times, are you discharging all the air from the valve? Meaning, cock it after shooting and pull the trigger without pumping it to see if any air is still in the valve. It may get to the point where you need to think about a lighter valve spring or a heavier hammer spring?

Try a WTB for a ft valve or end cap in the classifieds
If one was daring they could cut the cone off and sand it smooth and square.

You can easily remove the nose of the 13xx valve to work with your Mac1 piston.
Improved redneck method is to chuck the valve 1/2 in a drill and using your favorite cutting device (I like a dremil and cut off wheel) get it spinning and remove the nose. Touch up with a file and finish sandpaper or emery cloth.
Don’t forget to reduce the valve volume a little. It’ll build pressure faster with less pumps.

Thanks for the reply's guys.
The Mac1 piston is adjustable.
Do you guys think the flat head valve and piston combo has a great advantage over the stock cone shaped valve and cup?
And yes, it seems to expel all the air at 15 pumps.
Thanks
Rich

You can accurately flat the valve with a Disc Sander in just a few minutes if you or a friend has one. I have found it is much easier to eliminate head space for more volume per pump with the flat top set up over the cone. Be sure sander is set at 0 degrees and finish with fine grit.

I have stuck with the cupped variety with a stuffed piston... below is a comparison Bob did back in the day... a stuffed piston will keep up a good bit better than the unstuffed did... bout as good as the aluminum piston with cup... but the plastic piston may not be as easy to stuff anymore...

Did 2 of my OEM valves that's conical. I just hacksawed the cone and flattened smooth the surface with a sandpaper on a flat surface. Just need to make sure you dump all pumped air or you will need a stiffer hammer spring or get a spring adjuster you you don't to slam the valve stem if your not after higher pumping for power. Power adjuster can give you just right amount of spring to dump all air when shooting.
