I do not necessarily think it was a mistake, though I do believe they should have continued production of the original 34. They could have given the "improved" 34 a different designation as they did with the 340. I do seem many improvements in the EMS over the original but not enough of them to justify a huge price increase, though that will probably stabilize over time. My biggest objection is probably calling its trigger a T06 which is a bit confusing. Perhaps they could have designated the side latching trigger differently, maybe the T07. They certainly do not interchange. Many parts do not interchange making the EMS pretty much a different gun.
A sad story of Diana. A side latching trigger sums to be a departure from what has worked very well . We do not have the EMS here and I suspect the price ,if it gets here will be prohibitive considering my last experience with a 349 N_N/Tech Then maybe never again Diana
I don't know the first thing about running an air rifle company, but I think it's a mistake. Heck... the model is literally "classic." Shame to see it go... changed to a "improved/modernized" model in a move that has come to be universally known as really meaning, "changed to a model that's cheaper to produce."

I'd have to have a go with the EMS to really tell. Chances of that happening are slim, though.Hector has listed the design improvements in the EMS that UnderPressure alluded to above:Barrel droop compensation shims, a foolproof method of attaching the front stock screws over the iffy screw-on yoke, no more angled breech to mess up pellets, and the compound linkage (which is a non-issue to me, as I regard the old D34 extremely easy-cocking).The EMS is also tapped for a moderator, which is a real plus to me. I think the EMS 34 looks a lot uglier than the classic 34, which is a factor, too. It'd be very interesting to hear more about what Lt. Dan and his friend find lacking in the EMS.
I have three 34 C one 340 and a 52 and love them all. So when the 34EMS came out I bought one, big mistake its .177 and almost every pellet I tried just falls out when closing the gun. Even when you get a pellet to stay in gun it shoots all over, absolutely no accuracy at all. I got the gun cheap at Midway when they had them on sale, so I kept it. Its no where near as good as the old 34s
