The barrels are probably the biggest issue that Crosman neglected. When you make a bunch of rifles that are suspect in accuracy, it's hard to come back from that reputation. My Crosman Venom is one of my nicest springers, once the (.22, 650 fps) barrel was shortened to 12.5" so it would shoot right with 14.3 grain pellets. The barrel lockup is sublime. Locks up like a vault even though it closes like butter with only one finger.
As you can see from my signature I'm sort of a Crosman enthusiast. I've had a closet full of break barrel air rifles over the years. Got rid of most. I kept the Hatsans and the Crosmans. One of my .177 Crosman Fires resides in a Prowler stock, it's had the roller bearing mod, and is simply the easiest springer to shoot I have ever owned. The Shockwave is a .22 tack driver but a previous owner had to shorten it to about 11" of barrel to get it there. IMO the quality of the Crosman break barrels is superior to the Hatsan, Umarex, and Daisy offerings. The proviso is that in the end these are still Chinese break barrels and Chinese break barrels deserve their awful reputation. I've had a couple of duds from Crosman but I've never owned a really satisfactory Umarex, Gamo, or Daisy break barrel so it's all relative.
