In keeping up the GTA tradition, we were thinking of giving organized Airgun Clubs their own set of forums on the GTA. They could have a place to discuss shooting events, schedules and general discussions. This would be for all of the US. Since we are an International set of forums, everyone would be able to see if there are clubs in their area's to join or go visit and learn more. We see more and more posts where people are looking for places in their area to go shoot and enjoy the airgun sport/hobby. What a great way to meet new folks to shoot with.
We would take the existing Fun Shoot Forums Stat by State and convert it. It would look something like the Vendors Gates but just for organized Clubs.
We will have to find as many good clubs across the US as we can.
What do you all think? We need input.

Seems like a good idea to me. I haven't been here long, but it seems that the individual state forums don't get a lot of activity. Might as well convert them into club forums. It would make it easier to find airgun clubs too. I say do it!

I like the idea. Most of what is posted in my local state forums deals with getting together for shoots anyways. I think this might be a great way to folks to spark up their own shoots. Great advertising opportunity for well established ones as well.

The whole idea Scott is to give clubs a voice. Free space here on the GTA. Another way for them to get their schedules out to those that do not know they exist. I see post every week with members wanting to know if anyone is in their area that they can shoot with. We need this in my opinion but need everyones help to contact clubs and organized shooting places to let then know they have a place to come and to attract more folks from around their area. To help our new air gunners to find a new friend to shoot with.

Not trying to stir any problems being that you probably have given this a lot of thought. But being an international forum why is this limited to just the U.S.? Not that it matters to me but I see a lot of members across the border.

Actually it is not limited to the US. We just don't have any means of finding clubs outside the US but all are welcome. If you know of club or organization that sponsors shooting events then please by all means give us a contact so we can invite them.

I'd see this as a Shoots/Competitions/Fun Shoot Gatherings in a single Gate until such time as it gets too big and/or hard to navigate. I see no need to worry about US and International stuff just yet. Put in one spot, and then perhaps child Gates as need arises. An International child Gate will likely become one of the off-shoots.

I see it like we have the Vendors gates set up. Eliminating the state shooting section and replacing it with the Clubs and Organizations. These will be done as they commit to come join us. It will be set for each state with child gates as cubs and organizations. As new clubs and organizations come in from different states/country/regions and we just add that states/country/regions and list them under the catagory. Of course this could change. The GTA Admins staff has to look everything over and hash it out. Rules need to be in place etc. Lots of stuff to look at including managing it.
We just want the membership to find places to shoot on weekends, compete, play and have fun.

Heck, I don't even know if there is a club around me and I'm sure there are others in the same boat.
Who knows, maybe some of us will see something close by.

Would there be any impact in the way of extra expense to the site owners for bandwidth, storage, and servers? (especially if club forums become picture or video heavy?)

I think it might be a good idea to invite them to simply join the GTA first, and let them spend a little time here to basically get the "Feel" of what the membership here is like.
How we have a unique friendly atmosphere and a high level of camaraderie while also having a fairly high level of expected conduct.
Maybe if a club was to have a "Club Leader" or "Club Officer "and has a minimum post count or time spent on the forum before giving them there own gate ? This might also make it easier on the current moderators to monitor, and also provide them with a specific "point of contact" for each clubs individual gate.
I dunno,.. I just am cautious and would hate to see it turn into some nightmare for the moderators here.
But for the most part, I see it as a GREAT Idea ! ! !

Yep rules and logistics first. There are plenty of well established clubs and organizations out there. Yes it will have to depend on whether or not they want to fulfill there end of the deal. Some have websites already and some would rather let someone else put up the house to live in sort of speak. We are offering that at no cost to them, just participation. May be a pipe dream but I am willing to work at getting some clubs here to let our members know what they have to offer in the way of shooting events etc.
Keep your eyes open and let us know if you see a club in your state or near you that may be interested.

If the club already has a website then you could have a gate for local club website links. With permission from the club of course.

I think it's a great idea… but I wonder if there are really that many clubs out there which are "undiscovered" as we may think. We have about 8,500 members worldwide - hard to think any of them would not have at least a few members on the GTA. I would also wonder why they haven't made themselves known to us??? Perhaps offering them our hand is just the trick. Again, I'm all for it, seems win/win from all angles.

how do air gunners retain the fun/factor.... as apposed to comp. pb'n .22lr for those over 21yo? the answer is msp .22. i want a re-issue 990 (co2 and/or pump) in .177.........

This is a great idea!!! I wouldn't mind traveling 50 or so miles to shoot with a bunch of like minded people!!
Tom, Dockey, has a couple of get togethers a year at his place. We usually get about 5 or 6 GTAers. Can't tell you guys how much more fun it is shooting, and talking tons of smack, with a great bunch of guys that refuse to grow up and sling lead all day.....opposed to shooting alone.

sounds like a good idea. :) i also support the idea of them supporting their own gate. i'm sure lots of questions and comments etc will arise. kind of like the vendors gate. all in all sounds great. :)

sounds like a good Idea to me. I know the Local Salem Airgun benchrest shoot happens an hour from my in NY and some Top shooters go there regularly for shoots! I am sure they would join up

I have the schedule for 8 different clubs (Maryland to Maine) in the Northeast that shoot field target on our club website. There are also a couple of those clubs that are shooting silhouette and 1 shooting benchrest.

Just pellet gun clubs. We are diversified but not that diversified...:) Clubs that post events.

Shooting most evenings. Ages 8 to 99 yrs .
We just had the Illinois State Air Rifle and State Championship Match this weekend. The Illinois High School State Championship was a couple of weeks ago.
This one of two Olympic training centers in the USA. New last year.
Very cheap to join the club and practice weekly with our sporter or precision rifles.

Well, yes and no. If you're independently weathy no problems, if not more income might be spent on taxes than airguns. Just sayin'.....

Because of the snow this winter, some genius in office decided to raise the gas tax .05 to pay for pot hole repair crews! Ugh

There is a great group of Guys in Toronto who got a club and place to shoot just this year that would like a place also!

Wife is from Jersey, I'm from NYC. Retired to WV.
Why? property taxes: $320. A YEAR.
Small 1920 House w/central heat/air, was $41K.
(3/4 acre, free standing 12x30' unheated garage,)
Small herds of deer in the yard every night.
If we got THAT hungry, a baseball bat would do it.

im into this. ony one dedicated air gun range that i know of in ma and as far as i have seen no clubs, events or groups of any kind. for a state that is so hard on fire arms youd think that air guns would be more popular but they are still widely thought of as kids toys and not too many people take them seriously as a sport. i know there are others on this forum that are from ma and we need to start getting organized and getting together.

Sounds good to me Gene, I'm in N E Mississippi,I shoot with 3-4 friends every month or two but I'd like to try a match. So far the closest I've found is GTA fun shoot about 8 hrs away.

Hello, I realize that it is now 4 days shy of a year since the last Reply on this post.... but, just wanted "throw my hat in the ring", anyway.
I think the idea of - "by state/local... AG Clubs and affiliate clubs" (as well as Newly organizing or intent to organize, notifications) having a "gate" to help airgun enthusiasts find shooting venues (and new, like minded "buds")... is an Absolutely Fantastic Idea.
I live in SW. Missouri and recently "new" on GTA...and only 2.5yrs into the AG's, along with my wife... and have "no clue" as to what "may" be in this end of the state for a "club" to shoot with.... have put out several "replies" to fellows I "see" communicating in the "Missouri Gate"....and no replies from anyone in this area... even though they indicate that they live in the western / sw area of the state.... so, by all means... a "club gate" would be fabulous... even if none show up for this area... at least we might be able to locate some that are within a reasonable "driving distance" to go shoot with. :D
.....does anyone know, if anything has progressed with this idea, since it was first posted two+ (? I've forgotten the date on the original post, sorry) years ago?

While we're not officially a club, there is a group of about 5 or 6 of us on GTA that get together and shoot in Lithonia, GA and we're having regular conversations here about the next time we get together, guns we're buying or selling, etc and we're doing all of this via PM. The mailbox fills up really quick and when you 'reply all' to 5 other guys it makes you hit the 10 PMs per hour limit pretty quick too. Maybe we should just move these conversations to the Georgia gate?

Check us out in "South Carolina shooting events" and ALS' low country fun-shoot event". ALS' because it was two guys named Al started it. Six of us come regular to Cross, S.C. and a couple of others now and then. Had a couple of new visitors last time. One from Warner Robbins. By using the S.C. event gate our PM doesn't fill up and new guys can find us. I live in Savannah. If you use the Georgia gate other guys and gals can find you.

I too like the idea. Two brains are better than one in my opinion. Hope it stays classy, and friendly ta boot. What we have here is pretty nice, but extra input if not correctly directed is not always best. IMHO

Just noticed your from OK... I'm in SW. MO... which "end" of OK. are you located? Do you attend the weekly shoot in Tulsa ?
My wife & I may be going to the Tulsa shoot for the first time on April 7th, with another fellow & others from NW. AR.... who have just started a new club there, in Fayetteville... it's called NASA.... "Northwest Arkansas Spring gun Association", and had 9 people there for the first meeting last week... Not counting, my wife & I.. as I didn't get the message on it, until it was under way... but, we are definitely considering joining, as there is "apparently" no such clubs anywhere in western or sw MO, that I can find.
If your located anywhere near the east / SE end of OK... perhaps we can get together at some point for a shoot (?).... are you on "land" (acreage) where you have room to shoot ? Do you have or no of, anyone in your area that are "into" air guns?
I'm retired.... with still, lots of "get up & go" left in me.... that hasn't "got up & went" yet !! ;D ....so, am pretty free to travel around to wherever (within reason... 2hrs or "so") to get together & shoot with others. My wife & I drove 4+ hrs to a Friday morning (weekly) 10M shoot at the Josephville Gun Shop, just north/north east a few miles, of Wentzville, MO a few weeks ago (Feb.22nd).... had a Great time there, and they really made us feel at home... and even decided to have a "2nd" shoot on Saturday morning, just because they wanted to make it feel worthwhile for my wife and I, for the distance we drove to get there..... that jester, touched both of our hearts... and we plan on returning, for another shoot, asap.
Anyway... give a "shout" back... would love to hear from you... and see what might transpire.

You can get their screen name, come back to the GTA Forums, and look them up to send them a PM.
If you use a different name on the map,... then nobody will be able to figure out how to get a hold of you... and you wouldn't even know that there could be someone within your local area's.
ALSO,... Feel Free To Ad The Map Link To Your GTA Signature !
You are welcome to copy/paste it from my signature.
That way, every time you make a post in any thread, you are helping to get the word out about the map, and others have a chance to join.

I'd encourage any club to use one of the free services that host websites to put one together. This is the one I did for my club http://pneuzoo.weebly.com (http://pneuzoo.weebly.com) . It was not that hard and to be honest I'm rather dimwitted.

Ron, that map is cool, and Jim, will send a PM. Wasn't even aware of a weekly Tulsa shoot. There must be more people that shoot around here than I thought. If they had a spot here I guarantee I would be shooting more, would know more, and would probably be a better shot for it. So yes, again, invite them, it's a great idea.

Your welcome. now tell the others in your area about the GTA, The Map, and get them to sign onto both of them.
This is how we find each other, and forge new friends and shooting buddies.
The entire group of guys that I regularly shoot with found each other through the GTA and using the Map.
Without those, we would have never known about or found each other.
I'd bet that to date, there are around 1000 dead Ground Squirrels and Rats, that wished we would have never had this resource ! hahahaha :o ;) ;D

Can you change your name on the map? When I first came here I registered w/my real name and went straight to the map. Then I came to boards here and quickly realized nobody really uses their real name here, so I changed it here and now I guess I need to change it on the map.
