Are these IGT gas rams like hatsans vortex so you can fill or empty them if you want?
It doesn't affect accuracy at all, but it may eventually eat through the side of the gas ram. It is caused by the bottom of the piston scraping against the side of the gas ram when you cock it, I usually flip the ram over so that it alleviates this problem all together. To do that you will have to make the round head on the end of the shaft slightly smaller so that it fits into the trigger assembly.....

Is it that edge what is doing the scraping? I'm assuming a replacement gas ram would be hard to come by, would it not?
I'm a bit perplexed as to what actually caused the scraping of the gas ram body. My gas ram also has the rear end swell to it. And the scoring occurred mostly forward of the rear end swell. Although I doubt that the cocking lever shoe caused the scoring, I de-burred and polished its underside.
