Vintage Air Gun Gate / Re: Dennis Baker online auction« Last post by Garandsx5 on Today at 10:07:40 AM »Dennis sold his business several years ago to a family member. It is operating out of a store in Mt. Victory.
This is one of several sales that have happened. I agree that descriptions and photos of the various lots are less than helpful. I personally would not use that auctioneer. Compared to other local auctioneers that know how to sell online…. I do live about a half hour away (and I have a large truck), if someone needs stuff picked up. We can make arrangements for later meetups or delivery. I just thought this was an opportunity for some folks. I mean how many lots of Skanaker parts were there? 3
Air Gun Gate / What have I got myself into?« Last post by hguffman on Today at 10:07:33 AM »Greetings GTA people,
As the title reads, what have I got myself into. At the beginning of the pandemic I purchased my first shooter since my childhood Daisy Powerline 1700 BB gun (which still works great to this day). My pandemic gift to myself was a MAC1 "souped up" Crosman 1322 with open sights. I soon realized that while fun to shoot and a pleasure to not have to change out CO2 carts, it didn't exactly serve my needs. I became discouraged and put it away. Then the resurgence of the RATS came. It felt like if my Crosman didn't connect with a perfect head shot it was a &^^& shoot if the kill would get made humanly and I decided I needed something else. Last month I purchased a .22 Airacuda Std. new and a used Photo XT off EBay. The thing is AWESOME. Despite a issue with the power setting control (which Travis and the people at JTS is taking care of) I am ecstatic about this new air rifle. It's fun, powerful a pleasure to shoot, and it's already sat down a couple nasty rats. All this to say, after reading all the reviews I am considering a CMP Daisy 853 for something a little less powerful, and easier to charge/pump/fill with air, and kid/newbie friendly for the young adults around me to use. What have I got myself into? I went from one plastic BB gun to having a small air arsenal in a matter of 2 months! Is there no end to this madness? I have been really enjoying reading all the threads on the board. There's a lot of really good content. My wife thinks I may be going a little overboard. hahahahahahahahahahaha 4

But while they all sell they aren't selling that fast, they're actually selling rather slowly I think so hopefully it's just "regular" people who will really enjoy them buying them up.

"Bob and Lloyds Workshop" / Re: Changing My Thinking About Slugs« Last post by ballisticboy on Today at 09:30:53 AM »The problem with modelling the effects of changes in muzzle velocity with programs like Strelok is that you are only looking at one isolated effect. You have not considered the reasons why the muzzle velocity changed. One common reason is the projectile weight, which will not only change the muzzle velocity but also the rate of loss in velocity throughout the trajectory.
I carried out a very basic modelling exercise once many years ago where I took a springer model and a PCP model and looked at the effects on muzzle velocity of small incremental pellet weights and in turn the effects at the target, which also took into account the change in weight. The most interesting aspect was that the PCP performed much better than the springer. However, the target spread was also much reduced when the pellet weight change was combined with the change in muzzle velocity. The only way you can do that with something like Strelok would be to change the BC for each shot, but you will not know how much of the velocity change being modelled is due to change in projectile mass as opposed to other factors. 8

"Crazy Corey" was out in the field "Mousing" at 06:00 but came home empty handed. "Buddy" just laughed at her for trying while he was nice and warm inside 9
Air Gun Gate / Re: So.....what did you shoot today?« Last post by Ronfiveo on Today at 09:19:21 AM »FINALLY NO WIND! It probably could be a little bit warmer for a PCP, but I see you are all set up for a fun day. On your target I noticed a very tight grouping on the upper left target. What pellets were you shooting at that target? Really nice grouping. Ron 10
