I am thinking about removing a piece of wood from a thumb hole style stock and sanding it down IOT reshape the profile of the wood and then strip and refinish. I would buy a stock Hatsan Flash and remove the action and simply cut , sand and reshape it. Then strip all the stain and finish from it. Finally refinish it and seal the stain with some type of protective coating. Thinking of a deep ebony stain with a distressed finish. Just a little project to do on an inexpensive gun, possibly opening the door for more expensive rifle models in the future. I don’t own any wood models as of now. I prefer tactical looking ones. But perhaps a blending of wood and tactile is possible. I have circled the piece of the rifle stock I would remove, I’m not sure if it’s possible, or what the outcome might be. But it’s just an idea.
Ps. I still have the XM1 and Maximus for anyone that wants them for a project. You just pay the shipping, message me and provide an address and I will send it to you for shipping costs only.

Take that bit out and you will have a very weak stock. You will be making a weak stock weaker.

I saw a 10/22 Boyd’s Evolution stock with the lower spine removed ‘cuz it was in a state that didn’t allow TH’s and it looked very cool.
Kinda like the stock in the photo but with just a straight grip.

You can do what you are talking about but you will have to put 2 reinforcing rods into the stock to keep it from breaking.
The main one will be a 5/16 or 3/8 threaded rod. You will have to buy a 16" long (maybe longer) drill bit of the same diameter as the rod. Take the stock off of the gun and drill a hole all the way from where the back end of the receiver is inlet into the stock, all the way out thru the butt. Have somebody help eyeball the alignment of the drill so that it doesn't break out of the wood in the skinny area, because that is a real possibility. Clamp the stock down before drilling so that it doesn't wiggle around. You will have to counterbore the wood at either end to fit a washer and nut onto the threaded rod. It will be similar to the tensioning rod in a guitar neck. Then you will need a big wood screw like a #12 x 3 or 4 inches long to install from the bottom of the pistol grip. Make the holes fit the hardware nicely, but not so tight as to crack the wood.
IMPORTANT- Drill and install both pieces of reinforcing hardware before you cut the piece of wood out. Otherwise, it will break when you try to drill it.
It will look cool, but it will be tricky to do.

A bell hanger drill bit is the type of bit that you would need similar to this :
