I still think the 80 is better suited to 20 or 22.

Oh, I agree.
Toxylon:
I actually had dips for an early HW80 .177 cal, so I was watching this thread with interest.
I just couldn't justify buying it, given that I would need to switch the barrel, losing a good bit of the antiquity, and the fact that I already have many powerful breakbarrels (some which have gone through the expensive caliber switch).
Now, an early HW77, that would be very hard to resist. My only underlever is an old-in-an-obsolete-way BSF S54, which shoots somewhere in the 10 fpe region, with poor handling due to size, length and very noticeable barrel-heaviness.

Shooting Update:
Finally got some time off to polish up and wax the barrel and use Hector's T-9 bicycle lube/wax on some JSB 10.34 and 13.43 pellets.
- The JSB 10.34's are averaging about 865 fps or 17.18 FPE
- The JSB 13.43's are averaging about 729 fps of 15.85 FPE
The gun seems to shoot both pellets accurately, but the 13.43's produce a more pleasant shot cycle. Both pellets can hit 2mm dots in my 12 yard range if I do my part.
Now, waiting for a nice day to go to the range at 50 yards. The 10.34's have a ballistic coefficient of .029 while the 13.43's are .026 (from PA website). Also, I have the JSB 13.43's redesigned pellets on order which sport a .03 BC. The proof of the pudding in accuracy, but I hope one of the 13.43's are the most accurate because of pleasant shooting characteristics.
So far, really liking the more powerful .177 Springer.
Also, sorted out some mixed JSB pellets and realized they're weights vary between 0.00 and .45 grains :-\.
