Today i recieved my new Ruger Air Magnum from PA. I paid for the 10 for 10 and the first 2 shots registered 27 ftlbs. The remaining 8 had 24 FPE. These were with 11.9gr Hobby.
Unboxing and insepction everything looked good. Feels a hairball lighter than the H125 .25
Being a bit too loud and powerful to be backyard friendly i got on the ATV and head west .75mile to the end of Chevak hill. Not far from the floodline marked by piles of driftwood brought in by Merbok, is an area id come to shoot my breakbarrels to break in and sight in plastic ironsights and scopes. I have 2 small piles of wood nearby.
Being new and needing some break in, i took CPHP 14.3gr and HNB18s. Barrel lockup is Very Strong, takes a good bang to the stock to open the barrel. Its sure to ease up with use. Cocking feels nearly as heavy as the H125, it is a Magnum so that is to be expected. Now for the first shots with the Plastic open sights, around 15 yards to get this RAM sighted in. I havent run numbers through CG to figure out where i want it to hit and rehit but 15 is a good guess to rehit around 30 35yd. Once i shoot this enough ill figure what distance ill want sight in.. for now keep it at 15. For now the RAM will remain unscoped until maybe 200 shots have passed through. From looking at the rail and the open sights, it appears i would need a Drooper scopemount. The Picatinny rail points higher than the POA.. i may try Shimming but may have to find a DrooperMount.
The Trigger. Comes to a wall, the2nd stage, then you pass it and have to pull further.. Light but Long 2nd Stage trigger. Shot Cycle is good, i expected more vibration but its not bad. Shot Cycle will smoothout with use.
After getting sight in at 15 i moved back to 30yards. . With the U SMElite .22 and the HEdge .22, 30yard shots with open sights or scope are made with ease. I made a few hits on a can at 30. I also pulled a couple shots to the left and the right from the long pull. Still learning the trigger, i learned to get one movement past the wall, the next move will set off the AG. With enough shots i can get that trigger figured out. I put around 50 shots through. As i was about done shooting, 2 guys on an ATV showed up. Both had .177 BreakBarrelAirguns. The young boy had a Gamo Raptor Whisper, the Boys dad had a Benjamin Prowler. We talk for awhile and i let them both try the RAM. I also got to try thier AGs, was cool. Didnt like either of their triggers XD .
So far I Like the RAM, i just need to put more pellets through it and find what pellet/Pellets have the best groups. And get that Trigger nailed down, unless i get a CDT III trigger, do these fit in the RAM? Ive never had to change a trigger but this is the first time i find myself thinking of a different trigger. I have closed the trigger adjustment screw as far as itl go then backed off a half turn ill try that and see if that will work better.

Thankyou for the Information and suggestion given through PM. I will close the adjustment screw and see how that will work. I have seen +20moa picatinny rails and also seen +20moa dovetail mounts on Opticsplanet id have to see if i can find them again. Love the Power the RAM has.

The trigger adjustment screw was set 1 full turn from being closed as it was when it arrived. . From Enough reading on GTA <ThankyouGTAMembers> i foundout to shorten the 2nd stage, the 1st stage must be lengthened. So i adjust the screw to 2 full turns out. Wow. The difference 1 full turn makes. Now the 1st stage is long, but the 2nd stage now breaks cleanly without the loong 2nd stage travel. Ooohwee. Now this gun has a goood trigger.
Also looking down the barrel,, its bent downward. Hope that doesnt do me bad. As long as the gun will group well itll be good, though may have to remain without a scope.

If you do a bit of surfing around the site you will find an easily built barrel bending tool in the GTA Library. You can find the same tool on charliedatuna.com.

Still under warranty? Send it back!
A bent barrel on this model is not typical.
You could check the breach seal to make sure that it isn't sticking out to much. Should be just 1 to 2 thousands Over flush. I know that the factory machining on the seal grove can be hit or miss.
I had to shim mine out quite a bit. If the seal is out to much then it will cause barrel droop and the seal grove will have to be recut.

Bit of barrel droop is not the end of the world. If you are only using the irons it won’t matter. Shimming the scope mounts or getting a drooper mount ought to cure a scope problem (unless its really appalling).
24 fpe is plenty of mojo for that gun. Do you plan to hunt with it?

Yesterday i put another 70 shots through the RAM. I got the trigger to where i can setoff the gun without any creep or overtravel on the 2nd stage. Making 30 yard hits are now easy- no more pulled shots.
Just to, i put the scope on using different rings and shimmed the rear ring with 3 shims. Looking through the scope and lining up the Open sights i can see im still a good 8 inches low at 30. I adjust the scope to get close, but that makes the up adjustment prettymuch out of room. This relaxes the spring in the scope, notgood.
It hit a few times on target then started spraying anywhere. Took the scope off and got back to hitting with each shot. The scope is ok. Just the spring inside has no power to hold the scope inplace being adjusted sooo high.
Roadworthy
I think id like to bemd this barrel but at same time id like to send it back but it shoot so well so far.
Airnut
The warranty is still valid, the problem is i cant send the gun back, Post office here doesnt have postage- redonkulous. The breech seal is good it stick out alittle. Barrel lockup is soo strong. I am disappointed with the down bent barrel. But it seems to shoot very well with 14.3gr CPHP.
BlowpipeSam
Shimming the scope didnt help much. Ill be using the RAM to hunt. The U SMElite .22 has about as much power but not so good of a trigger. 24 ftlbs is alot. Im not sure what to do on this one. Keep it and live with the down barrel or try get a return / replacement.

The barrel should NOT be bent!! If it is under warranty first choice is to ship it back. The vendor may even provide free shipping if you ask - some still do. If not go to pirateship.com. They offer reduced shipping rates. If you do elect to bend the barrel try
https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/library/Charlies%20Barrel%20Tool.pdf
Shimming the scope is rarely a good idea. It puts stress on the scope tube which can cause it to deform.

Call PA and request a return shipping label.
They usually work with you if you want a replacement due to a defect.
Shimming a scope especially on a magnum springer is not a good option as already stated.
If you are dead set on trying to fix it then first you must find were its bent. My guess would be were the barrel is pressed into the breach block it wasn't pressed in square. You can check it with a straight edge.

Ok. Thankyou everyone for your replies.
Airnut,
Roadworthy,
The bend begins not far past the barrel breech. As i look through the barrel from the breech the bottom of the barrel lines up with the top of the end of the barrel. .22-.25 off within 18 inches,, translates into 10-11 inches low at 30 yards.
I called PA and told them of the bent barrel. I was told i would be reimbursed for shipping back to them with USPS. A little problem there though. Id have to go to the next town to send the AG through USPS.
This morning i checked the local store and seen some UBolts that could be used to bend the barrel. I picked up some empty boxes to make a shipping box.
This RAM seems to shoot very well with CPHP14.3s i also tried 18gr HN Barracudas. They did good. I havent had this AG long enough to try the other HN Pellets in it. I havent put it on Paper but everything i pull the trigger on at 30 is hit. Also tried a few shots at 45yards had around 2.5- 3 inch drop. I was able to hit a small 1"x2" target 3 out of 5 shots with open sights. .
I dont want to be without the RAM. But it might be sent back for a refund or replacement. Not wanting to wait 1bit < 1 week for them to get it 1 week to get the replacement> i Bought Another RAM. Now. Get a refund and be up 220$ or get replacement and have 2 RAM.. or keep this bent barrel accurate AG and try bend the barrel... Most likely be sent back for a refund,, as a new one is getting ready to be shipped to me.

Airnut,
Thankyou, this BadBoy <goodgun> is going back. With another on its way. Ill be sending this back tomorrow for a replacement. My bank doesnt miss the 2something i spent on it so yeah, 2 RAMs for me.
BlowpipeSam,
Thankyou for the suggestion. I did try calling 2 weeks ago about the XS25 the Ruger Blackhawk Type. I didnt get a return call so as soon as the RAM was available i pressed that submit order button quick.. the XS28, if it had a Synthetic Stock and plasticIron sights id jump on it but no. Id rather not get a wood stock nosight AG at the moment. Would love a XS28 with a 28FPE spring, the 28fpe spring fits in the RAM, cocking that must be a monster..

After work On the 27 of September, a Rainy windy day I packed the RAM in a self made box. As soon as I had the RAM nice and secure in the shipping box, the rain stopped for a couple hours. I wanted to take the RAM out and letoff a few goodbye shots, but decided id rather not go get more boxes to make another box.
On the 28 of September I took a flight to the largest town of the Yukon Kukokwim Delta, I had a few things to take care of there. I brought the RAM with me and sent the box with USPS Priority for the replacement/refund.
At one of the big stores in the Sportsman Area I picked up a few items and took a look at the AGs they had. Not many models they had, a few multipumps, and only 1 kind of Breakbarrel. The SwissArms TG1. Looking over the box it looked like a good AG. On to another part of town, along the way I search results on the SA TG1. Sounds good, a B19 Type with an adjustable stock. Makes 15-16+ FPE in .177. Later at the same store I Bought the SwissArms TG1 along with 50pc of CO2 powerlets that i put in a waterproof surivalbox for my 2240.
I made it home in the evening and opened the SA TG1 box to inspect the contents.
A thin layer of factory oil is on the gun< good- NoRust. Wiped down and continue. Breech Seal is good, out a little and not flat.
Straight Barrel,,,,, Check!!! DirtyBarrel, one run with a BoreSnake got it clean. Nice feels like 7lbs unscoped. 42.5" OAL. 3 peice adjustable stock. 4x40mm SA scope < most included scopes seem to come with a 30 yard parallax setting. The stock screws were tight but needed a little snugging. I adjust the stock, pull in the buttplate to shorten LOP, adjust the diagnal sliding stock peice to the highest point, adjust the comb to be comfortable for Opensights. Made sure to tighten the stock adjustment knobs.
I take some CPHP7.9gr along with CPUM10.5gr in small mylar bags < 1"x2" >
and headout to give this AG a run. Breaking the barrel feels like 30 lbs, smooth while cocking. The breech is tight, good,, except some of the CPHP and CPUM were very tight to insert. The stock has 2 lines running near the top along with a couple circles. These can be used to guide your hands to the same postion once you find how to hold the AG. Pistol grip gives good control.
The Trigger, is a little heavy but the travel is not long.
Knowing about dieseling i made the first 10 shots with CPUM10.5gr to keep velocities lower and to avoid the supersonic crack. First 3 shots were loud and powerful, the rest calmed down. After 10 shots i switched to CPHP7.9gr and began sighting in the open sights for 25yards, later ill figure out what distance i want sight in. Got it sighted in and the 7.9gr were hitting good and right where i want just above my front sight. Tried some shots at 40 yards and the 7.9gr pellets were hitting the same spot with a little drop. Put in around 70 shots that evening, enjoyed every shot. That night i took the stock screws off and put BlueLoctite on. The stock screws have a flat base instead of teethed washers < Good>.
I tried a couple scopes, 4x32Ruger, 4x40SwissArms, the Ruger had a clearer picture and easier to find center, mock mounted the new 4x32UTGHunter w35yd parallax< eye relief is short and not so clear edges unless your lined up super correctly, maybe i gotta give it a try sometime. AO4x32Valiant Mildot IR, now sits on the SA TG1. Since ive had it i have around 200 shots in, break in time so i dont mind sighting in and resighting when changing scopes or switching to Open sights.
I tried some other pellets. The CPDestroyer7.4gr were a good fit and accurate at 30yards, but accuracy fades by 40-45yards. HNBHE9.5gr good fit and good performance on accuracy. 7.9gr Wad, good. GTomahawk7.5gr , good fit, inconsistent skirts, stickout alittle even after pushing it in,, use these in MultiPumps not breakbarrels abit light anyway. HNFTT8.64. Great,, hits 1" lower at 30 than the lighter pellets but getting consistent hits. There are other pellets to test, so far everything i put through the barrel does good. For now sight in is with 7.9grCPHP, with enough use ill find the best pellet for this AG, 7.9CPHP does great even on longer 40-45yard shots.
The SA TG1 has performed Great, its accuracy is what i wanted in a .177 Breakbarrel.
PA recieved my returned RAM today 10/4.
Now. Im waiting for the New RAM to get in. Waiting...
SwissArmsTG1.

New RAM got in today.
Shimmed the breech seal and tighten screws.
Straight barrel, lockup is a little easier to open, trigger needed a different setting to be good. 50 shots all good hits after sight in with open sights. Will add blueloctight to stock screws later this evening.

There are differences between the 1st RAM and the one I have now. The 1st being the down bent barrel of the 1st RAM. That AG was harder to open and a little harder to cock. But the shot cycle was smooth. Current RAM is not as smooth in ShotCycle though shoots just as good as the 1st with 14.3gr.
10for10 shows the 1st shot getting 29fpe, then 27fpe, then the rest around 22.5-23fpe. Around 30fps slower than the 1st RAM, but i dont see a difference in flightpath,, im sure whatever i hit wouldnt be able to tell the difference either..
Got around 100 shots in.
1st RAM had a great trigger adjusted at 1.5 turns out. RAM i havenow its setting is it .75 counter turn from closed. Clean wall that breaks when i want it to. U SMElite .22 has a good trigger when adjusted right, has a defined wall that breaks as soon as its passed. On the Elite.22 right adjustment is Tricky to find , 1/4 turn too closed makes 2nd stage too long, 1/4 too open and its just travel and the piston drops. You can find it though, just takes a #1 philips and some pellets.

Thankyou TommyBoy,
With temperatures getting into the 20s and 30s F', a couple weekes ago i took 3 of my Spring powered AGs, removed the stock from the action and placed a drop of RWS Spring Cylinder oil on each or every other spring coil. Doing this helps protect the spring from developing rust, especially with temps getting low to where the AG will "Sweat" when brought in the house. For the most part my Spring powered breakbarrels are done for now until spring. I have a couple GasRam powered AGs (H125 .25 and USMElite .22) and Multipumps (DP880) that will better brave the cold. Not that a Springer will have a problem,, just rather not have my Springers sweat more than they need to.

Hi Nukall.
The jet stream has dropped below where I live. Consequently we have been getting North winds out of Nunavut & N.W. Territories Canada, so it has been colder where I live too. We had our first snow Oct. 14. The morning temps are all around 19F. or 20F. Daytime temps have been varying between 35F to 40F. This weekend the winds are supposed to shift and come from Texas and the South. Then the temps are supposed to warm up to around 70F for Sat & Sun, with the possibility of thunder storms.. On Monday the temps are supposed drop again as the winds shift back to coming from the north.
If I plan on hunting in cold weather I leave my rifles out in the unheated garage. That way they only sweat once. I generally have to check zero again as it gets colder. I have already done that with the .22 cal. Crosman Summit Ranger, the .22 cal. Umarex Surge Max Elite and the .22 cal. Crosman Red Tail.
The Summit Ranger is shooting 14.3 gr. Crosman Destroyers, The Redtail is shooting 15.89 gr. JSB Hades and the Surge Max is shooting 14.3 gr. Crosman Hollow Points.
As winter progresses and it gets really cold, I'll start shooting the .25 cal Hatsan 125 and the .22 cal. Walther Talon Magnum.
I have been seeing several flocks of ducks & geese coming out of Canada and flying south. All the summer song birds are gone now but the year round birds are all still here.
Happy Hunting & Best Wishes - Tom

Look like you have some cold weather in your area..
That is a good practice of keeping your selected hunters cool to avoid sweating also of rechecking zero after the AG has stabilized to outside temp assures that your POI doesnt shift as the AG cools to outside temp. Lately the newDP880 has joined me outside in the 30s as i cut wood. Works just fine in the cold, i make sure to fire a pellet right before bringing the AG in. Wipe off sweat after a few minutes.
Shooting the RAM requires your PistolGrip Hand to grip and pull the AG Into your shoulder. Foregrip Hand to balance and point with soft grip and NoPulling.
Shooting the RAM without firm PGHand and firm shoulder the AG will move forward and torque counter clockwise pulling the shot high and left.
Need parts for your AG, number of brands< breechseals, piston seals, springs, tune kits, front and rear sights, check a r c h e r a i r g u n s dotcom.
Scopes, mounts, Rings, foregrips, rails, reddot, tactilights so on at Opticsplanet.
Buck-rail. < LDCmoderators for a number of models and barrelmounts that are better than C459intermounts. Free shipping, weird pricing and soso packaging at Amazon. Pyramydair < AGs and pellets >
