Interesting concept.  How did you make the ring, and what material is it?

I'm pretty sure that only works for the diameter you machine it to.... If the chuck varies as you move the scroll, you will no longer be centered....

Just a piece of iron pipe was set up on the rotary table. Plunged an endmill 3 places.

Depends on the accuracy of your scroll. That's why 3 jaws are not your most accurate setup.
 
This also cures  bellmouth or sprung jaws. Will cause serious issues when parting, etc.
