Title: Sacramento Valley Field Target Club - October 2022 Year-End Match Results
Post by: Gear_Junkie on October 24, 2022, 12:52:50 AM
Well, today was the last FT match for the year for the Sacramento Valley Field Target Club.  Weather was forecast to be on the cool side and WINDY!  The wise Match Director set a slightly easier course to avoid having us run home crying. Many hands make light work, and we made quick work of setting up the course.

After the setup, we had our safety talk, spent half an hour shooting in very mild winds, and then started the match.  There were 19 of us who came to conquer the metal animals and zombies.

Right after the match started, the wind decided that it was time to join the party.  It kept us on our toes all day.  It was mostly headwinds with some right to left action, with the typical Ione switcheroo’s throughout the match.  My guess is that the winds averaged 5 – 15mph throughout the match, with some gusts close to 20mph.

As nasty as it was, we rose to the challenge and did our best.  (The crazy springer guys and WFTF guys DEFINITLEY rose to the challenge!)  Following are the scores for the day:

Hunter PCP
Scott - 56 (1st place and Match High Score)
Zack - 50 (2nd place via shootoff)
Chris - 50 (3rd place via shootoff) [Poor Chris had gale force winds blow in for his shooting!]
Fred - 48
John B - 47
Marty - 43
Conrad - 40
Ahmid - 37
Dan - 31
Larry - 27
John D - 27

Hunter Piston
Bill C - 43 (1st place)

WFTF PCP
Dave - 48 (1st place - Tie)
Gabriel - 48 (1st place - Tie)
Son - 45 (2nd place)
Chang - 37 (3rd place)

WFTF Piston
AJ - 36 (1st place)
Jim - 35 (2nd place)
Mark - 33 (3rd place)

After the match, we all complained about the wind together, ate lunch, and then complained some more.  Everyone pitched in to clean up the course quickly.  There were a few of us who hung out afterwards to talk, shoot, and complain some more.  We then hugged, shed tears, and cried together about the long winter until the next match.  OK, maybe there was no crying or hugging.

Huge thanks to Scott for being our fearless leader and keeping us hooligans in line.  It was a great day with a lot of fun hanging out and enjoying our sport.

Until next spring... happy shooting!

Thank you Zack for taking up the match report duties.
Today was a 60 shot match.
While kill zones ran large with 13 of 15 lanes at 1" or greater KZ's, once the winds start blowing you simply can't stay up the middle in shot placement.
We also had a nice lunch provided this match thanks to the efforts of Conrad & Marty.

Great help by all present to set up, tear down & pick up.

Thank you to ALL.

You're welcome Scott, and thanks for filling in the gaps in my report  ;D

Also, a huge thanks to Chris for providing a trailer to shuttle the blocks back and forth.

Yeah, that Motorhead dude had his mojo on for sure.  When things get sloppy he really shows the rest of us why he and his match guns are champion.  And that gusty wind!  Just when you decided on your hold it would calm down for a moment.....long enough to rethink and adjust your aim and then it would really gust, blowing soft gun cases around and a big plastic storage tote off of the table!  Aaaargh!!!!!

No joke - Scott was an absolute animal out there!  My last 3 matches I've got second place (or tied for it  ;) )... all behind Scott.  I don't think I'm ever going to beat that dude in a match.  He reads the wind as if it's a billboard!
