Were the Sheridan Pistols made before the Benjamin merge?
To my knowledge, Sheridan Pump pistols were only available in black from 1982 -1990. They were marked Sheridan Products, Racine, WIS on right and H series on left along with a serial number. From 1991 - 94, marking on the left was H9 series, a serial number and an invitation to read the manual up front. Benjamin/Sheridan was on the right along with the Racine, WIS. address. Then it gets confusing when manufacturing of Benjamin/Sheridan moved to E. Bloomfield, NY. I believe 1995 - 98 these pistols were marked Benjamin Sheridan along with the E. Bloomfield address and a warning to read the manual on the left front, H9A series was on rear left along with the markings up front. Just a serial number on the right. I'm not sure you could buy a new nickle plated Sheridan pump pistol after 1994. The identical pistols were marketed as Sheridan Hb20 as well as Benjamin hb20 during thise period? You could buy H17 and H22 nickle pistols though. I have a polished brass, Benjamin/Sheridan marked H9A pump pistol, advertised as the companion pistol (H20pb) for the 50th anniversary Sheridan (C9pb) issued in 1998. It appears to be the same as the 1990 except the reciever is a little shorter. If anyone has better info about this time period, please post. I have always had difficulty trying to sort this out.

This is correctFrom 1991 - 94, marking on the left was H9 series, a serial number and an invitation to read the manual up front. Benjamin/Sheridan was on the right along with the Racine, WIS. address. correct, except 1991-1993 (and not 1994). also the serial number was on the left side near the receiver - and not up front by the manual statement. also, there is more information about the serial numbers if you are interested. the original format changed a little ways into productionThen it gets confusing when manufacturing of Benjamin/Sheridan moved to E. Bloomfield, NY. I believe 1995 - 98 these pistols were marked Benjamin Sheridan along with the E. Bloomfield address and a warning to read the manual on the left front, H9A series was on rear left along with the markings up front. Just a serial number on the right. I'll have to check on how long they kept the Benjamin Sheridan stamp on the right receiver, but I don't think it was very long. maybe to '95, but a short time into the bloomfield production they took away the right stamp completely (just like the rifles). The only stamp on the right after that was the serial number. However, on the very first bloomfield H9s, the serial stamp was often on the left side, though it was ALWAYS the new crosman 9 digit serial. I'm not sure you could buy a new nickle plated Sheridan pump pistol after 1994. I'll check on this. I have this information. but there was no distinction between sheridan and benjamin pistols. they were all benjamin sheridan. The identical pistols were marketed as Sheridan Hb20 as well as Benjamin hb20 during thise period? no, not true. they were all Benjamin Sheridan pistols. All were H9 or H9A. The guns were never marked HB20, HB17, HB22 - but the boxes were marked that way, and the catalogs listed them that way. The guns were marked H9 and then the caliber (.177 etc.). I think what you are indicating here is what I mentioned in my last post. After crosman took over manufacture in bloomfield, they immediately changed the pistol frame back to the original Sheridan HB style frame - you can see the other details in the last post about it. If anyone has better info about this time period, please post. I have always had difficulty trying to sort this out.
Hey Billy, your knowledge on this topic never ceases to amaze. I wouldn't doubt it was all off the top of your head, as they say.I know you've been collecting data on Benji's. Any data with respect to s/n on the H9's?Thanks!
