Does anyone use these big bores as shotguns??
I got to shoot the .58 Haley this weekend. What a cannon!! It was punching nice big holes in my target. Another reason that I changed my mind from dreaming about a 12 gauge air shot gun and wanting one in the 28 to 20 gauge range..58 cal is a lot of lead and couldn't imagine a .729 cal now!! Maybe if/when 5500psi scba tanks are available. Otherwise today you need a booster pump and a 4500psi scba tank to get the higher pressures in your gun.28 gauge (.550) 24 gauge (.580) 20 gauge (.615) 12 gauge (.729)
Dr.Reb, You are correct, I cant wait until the .58 Boomer comes. Reba ( Jacks Wife ) said about 3 + weeks or so. I am getting a .58 Carbine Boomer Built. I am going to start with the 286 Grain round balls and the 433 Grain Conical Bullet to start with. In the .50 DAQ Bandit , I will start with the 182 Grain round Balls and the 330 Grain Conical Bullet and work from there. I am the only one from South Carolina to make the DAQ list. I can wait 6 weeks to 6 months for the DAQ , But well worth the wait. After these 2 rifles I would like to get a .45 Ranger from Dan. I will see. This New Big Bore thread is just what I have been looking for to understand and learn more about the many different Big Bores and what each one has to offer. I am sure I will pick up a lot of information here from Ammo to Hunting, And then some. I need to place an order with Bob V soon here so I will have what I need to shoot the .50 & .58. I will proudly post the .58 Boomer and .50 Bandit , Once There here. I have to be real close to having the .58 Boomer ship. I am looking forward to Reba calling and saying its ready ,so I can send the Balance out. I am really pumped up about getting a Haley and a Quackenbush , I am still in shock. I will post more when I have one in hand. Jetman / Gary Catania / Disabled, U.S Army Cleveland , SC
Dave - Aim for the heart!! I want my skull to be pretty for a Euro mount. How lucky can a guy be to live in the same town and get to shoot with Seth? The cool thing is that I don't have to pay for shipping on the bullets I buy. Whoohoo!!Events in the south..The Arkansas Airgun show(second largest in the country) will be in April. Come on down and meet Dennis Quakenbush and Jack Haley at the show. They will be there and should have a Bigbore to sell. We also go on a hog hunt after the show on Sunday morning. There is also a shoot called LASSO. Longrange Airgun Silhouette Shooters Organization - Here is a link to an older shoot meet.http://www.bigboreairguns.com/lasso08.htmBullets....I absolutely love Seth's (Bigboreairgunammo.com) .458 Wide Flat nose bullet. It's a very accurate bullet and the ability to punch two holes is critical for a good blood trail. You can't ask for more penetrating power than that. I like Roberts hollow points, but I follow the thought in archery that a mechanical can fail to open and has a loss of energy that I don't want. I see this as an issue in hollow points. I don't want my bullet filling with hair and meat and not open or hit bone and lose a lot of energy and not make an exit hole. If I just hit a lung and have no exit hole, I've just lost the blood trail.Like I said about the cup point above. Excellent expansion without a huge loss of energy. My test were in the rubber mulch and they increased to .50 caliber size. That cup point is very shallow as you can see in this picture. He also has a poly tip coming out that should be awesome.http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/message/1297049543/How+about+this+Harry-
