Bipod repair?
«
on:
October 20, 2017, 08:48:27 AM »
Any suggestions on repair of a stud mounting bipod that has a "stud pin" that falls out? I use this bipod on my .308 and it works great but during installation or removal one of the pins falls out. I can always super glue it but that doesn't last and one of these days I'm going to forget and the pin is going to go bye bye into the grass. Its a bit small to weld if I even had a welder..lol.. hate to replace it over a single pin issue.
Thanks
Doug

try soldering or brazing a small chain or wire to it, Pictures would give a better perspective on the issue, and a better Idea of solving it.

Sorry I just assumed everyone would know which pins I was talking about. Here is a picture.
The thing about an adhesive is that there isn't much to stick to other than a flat surface one the pin in properly in place. and the area on the opposite side where the Pin goes into the stud leaves little room for an adhesive.

"Knurl" the pin on one end with a pair of side cutters (dikes) or "swedge" the hole egg shaped then use a pair of pliers to "press" the pin in place?

maybe use a pointed punch and make indents near the edges of the pin and the hole causing the metal to expand and create a wedge type hold if you can get something to fit behind as a backing support.

Thnks everyone for the input and I'm very sorry for the delay in my reply here. Been a crazy week for me. I think may try to take it apart further and use some sort of punch as described below. I dont have high hopes with it being such a small pin. I thoght I might even try to buy a thin machine screw and nut to mount i directly on the rifle stud where the pins would be. if it works i will leave it on the rifle. guess i will have to think about adding a new one to the list of things to buy.. oh well.
I hate stud mounted bipods anyways.. perhaps I should put a rail on it.
Again thank you all for the input and if I get it working I will let you know.
Thanks
Doug
