Filling Air Tanks in Colder weather

It is a real PITA (Pain In The Arse) to fill your Air Tank to 4500 PSI only to find it at 4100 when out in the field and loosing about 1/3 of your shots. I tried some tricks. First I filled a refrigerator chilled tank to 4500. after it warmed up to room temp, I had 4700 PSI. I refrigerator chilled it again. I also had 3.5 Gal of water chilled. Next I put the 18 Cu. In. chilled tank in a 5 gal bucket along with the refrigerator chilled water. By the way, the pressure now was 4000 PSI. Again I filled it in this chilled state to 4500 PSI. When the tank reached 75 farenheit it was at 5000 PSI give or take 30 PSI. The gave me a total of 40 shots with my .457 Texan instead of 30 shots before using the chilled tank trick. Oh the bullets were 357-358 grains.

I noticed this with my first .25 marauder. I was hand pumping at the time and only getting 16 shots so the cold would really hurt my time in the woods. then I got a tank so not as big a problem but still annoying to have to head back to the truck for refills in the middle of hunting. now I leave my tanks and whichever rifle I’m using the next day in my truck overnight so they are both chilled to ambient temp and I don’t have to try to figure out what will happen as they warm or cool with the weather. in the spring and fall I can occasionally get lucky and get extra shots as the temperature rises. like a never ending air tank. keeps me in the woods longer (gets more shots now too) so that makes me happy. good luck with whichever system you use to get what you want.

Yeah deff leave your rifle and tank outside overnight before you go out like Geronimo said. Works like a charm.
