Does the Texan really have enough power to handle a 400 gr. bullet?Bob
Thanks Carl! I still can remember something Waiting to see Your new video Sir
Sorry, I wasn't thinking of an Uber-Texan.... no doubt they can do it, as can an Extreme, and a few others....Bob
I used the term "Uber" as a compliment, to indicate Doug's wonderful valve and other work done to vastly increase the FPE over stock.... It was NOT a put-down in any way.... Sorry if you took it to be.... You talk about 800-900 FPE, and "600 FPE way back then".... and from what I have read, that was already more than what a stock Texan does.... I would consider a 600 FPE gun more suited to 300-350 gr. bullets in the 900s than a 400 gr. in the low 800s.... My original question simply asked if a Texan was suited to a 400 gr. bullet, and I would have assumed that most would interpret that to mean a stock gun.... Air Force claim over 500 FPE on their recommended 3000 psi fill, and my understanding was that could only be obtained (on a stock gun) with a heavy bullet moving slowly.... Again, perhaps the gun is better as delivered than the manufacturers claim, or the early reviews I read indicated.... 500 FPE with a 400 gr. bullet is only 750 fps.... and that is why I asked my original question....Carl, what you accomplish at long range is remarkable.... Once again, I apologize if you took my "Uber-Texan" comment as anything but complimentary.... I would still like to know if a 400 gr. bullet is suitable for a STOCK Texan, or if there are better choices.... sorry I didn't make that clear initially....Bob
If Doug gets the valve to 700+fpe on 3200psi I want one! So you say just opening the valve exhaust on the tophat got you to 600fpe? Now I'm fighting not degassing and going out to the drill press. But, A stock texan with a AAO spring can handle a 400gr just fine. Id guess near 750-760fps. I put a 372gr at close to 800 so no reason 28gr difference should effect it much.
I would still like to know if a 400 gr. bullet is suitable for a STOCK Texan, or if there are better choices.... sorry I didn't make that clear initially....Bob
