Hatsan 44 coil spring in a Tac1

I had a little extra time on my hands this morning, so decided to see what difference there would be in putting a Hatsan 44 coil spring in the Tac1 test B19 platform I have. After taking the old spring out, (which came from an Optimus, Crosman spring gun), I noticed that the Hatsan coil is 8 coils longer, same ID and OD and gage wire. I measured it up to the other spring and rear spring guide spacer and found with out the spacer it was almost the same length as the Hatsan with out the spacer.
I added a little weight to the front of the piston, ( a polished real copper penny), gehtto sleeved it and lubed everything up and put it together. I don't have a chrony, but it is about the same effort, perhaps a little more to cock it and it is driving through 3/4" plywood at 10 meters, so it is an improvement over what was in it. It is a bit more hold sensitive now as I expected it would be, but groups rather well with the open sights at 10 meters.
So far I have changed the .177 barrel to a Crosman late style .22 barrel, and tuned everything up best I could, and put this 44 coil spring in it. It is nice and smooth, no twang, but is a bit harsher on the recoil. It doesn't make noise when it is cocked, and with the bearing mod in it is a good trigger for general shooting. It has given me the opportunity to play with an inexpensive break barrel and not break the bank on parts. all the parts were from different guns that weren't being used except for the $12 barrel from Crosman. so I don't have a lot of money into it. Now to find another cheap break barrel to experiment on LOL.

Update: I liked the way it shot, then I was sitting around on our rainy day weather here and got bored....A bad Idea. After reading about Bills shortened Wildcat Gamo I got to thinking about it...another bad idea. I took the .177 barrel that came on the gun and measured 11' up from the breech and cut it last night. After I faced it off and cut a new crown, I tested it. It was shooting too high, I knew the barrel had a slight bend upwards in it, so I took it off and realigned,( bent) the barrel using surgical precision,( hammer, big vice), to make it shoot level then re installed it. I must say it shoots better than it did with the long barrel. Kinda hard to cock this way as there is nothing to hold onto except the skinny barrel. It is more accurate than before, shoots cheap CHP's and Winnies good, and is LOUD. To cure the cocking situation I am making a fake LDC that will act as a handle to get a better grip on it.Where I live I am not worried about the noise, it usually sounds like a battle ground around here on the weekends with everyone shooting their PB's, so just having a cool looking handle is enough for me. When I shot it, it is right on the money from 10 meters and a little low at 50, so I didn't lose anything with it except 6" of barrel. LOL. Now it is a nice little carbine, going to modify the stock next, then do a repaint on all of it.

Cole,
Whacking the barrel to straighten it is............................
The way I do it.
I use a the rubber end of a hardwood flooring mallet to hit the barrel once I've braced it some how.
I've heard doing a shock hit does something to the metal atoms or what not to make it stronger?
The Hatsan Springs are nice springs to play with if you have them.
Good job.
Now.
Where's the pics?

Ha ha , yeah Jeff I think I took that advise off here some where. I had that spring from a detune I did on my VMX, so I figured why not see if it works in my FrankenTac. So far so good, the spring and shorter barrel seemed to up the velocity. I think, it seems to shoot nicer with the short barrel, and looks different. I might put one of it up in the media section as I can't seem to find how to post them here. I looked all over the other day I guess I'm just not looking in the right spot.

Guess I'm going to put a Crosman spring back in it. that Hatsan spring is just a tad to much to muscel down over and over with the short barrel. Other than that it is a fun little gun.
