Daisy 753 Refinish - Before and After

She was listed as a Daisy 853 for $125. I suspected that it was actually a 753 so I plopped my bid and won!
When she arrived I decided that the stock could use a refinish:
BEFORE:
I can live with knots and blotches but there were a couple of imperfections that were unfortunately placed in areas that made the stock look like it was damaged.
The dark areas in the refinished stock cover up imperfections.
Stock was refinished with Minwax stain, spray paint for the dark areas and a few coats of TruOil.
Whole process took more than a couple of weeks to make sure that each medium was fully dried for the next.
This was my first time refinishing so it was a huge learning experience.
There was some surface rust on the barrel weight so I stripped it down too. I'll probably repaint it black but figured I like the raw metal look for now.
It's not perfect but I think I'm happy with it.

Looks good- I wouldn't have thought to try something like that, but it works!
Is the trigger adjustable? Looks like it could have been a CMP 853 gun at some point- they can be bought w/the 753 stock if desired.

Thanks guys...
I'm no expert but I'm about 95% sure it's a 753.
Aside from the stock, it also has the "better" rear peep sight and detachable globe sight/barrel weight combo.
Sure these things can be purchased from Daisy (at a great price at that!) but I have a feeling they came with the rifle.
Anybody know of a way to confirm?

It should say right by the breech. Right side of the gun, in front of the loading port.
I have an 853 Monte Carlo outfitted with the 753 front & rear sights (with BKL risers) as well. Great shooter.
Enjoy it. JMJ

Does it have an adjustable trigger? Look at the rear of the trigger guard for a factory looking screw hole through it. This part was available until recently (and if Daisy reupped it may still be) but most folks hand drilled a hole to do the "Pilkgun" trigger mod
whereas the 753 comes already done from the factory
(ETA- incorrect, 753 doesn't come w/adjustable trigger). And like said- the receiver shroud should have the model and serial number. These can also be bought- if so it won't have a s/n.
The MAIN thing you want to verify is that the barrel is a Lothar Walther. It should have 12 lands/grooves and should be choked at the muzzle. Pushing a pellet from the muzzle down towards the breech will tell you- choked barrels will have a tighter ID at the muzzle. So the pellet should start hard then almost freefall after the choke.
Bottom line is there's no difference between the 753 and 853 actions.

hmmmm....
Maybe she is an 853 afterall?
I do not see an adjustment screw for the trigger.
But on the receiver where other 853's say "DAISY POWERLINE 853" mine just says "AVANTI"
Barrel is definitely tapered. Had a pellet jam in the tip of the barrel when I fisrt got her (needed oil - shooting weak).
My eyes aren't good enough to see or count grooves. I'll try taking a macro picture with my phone to check.

I'm mistaken- it doesn't have an adjustable trigger after all. Sorry for the mix up.

Nice job.
I like the 2-tone effect. I would never have thought of that.
You have such a nice finish that you have to shoot the pix in the shade, the sunlight glares off the finish.
I "think" it was the 888 that had the factory adjustable trigger.
